Owners Thread: Innovative Marine Fusion 40

you both seem to be doing at least 10 gallons every 2 weeks. I have been doing 5 gallons. Maybe it's just not enough of a water change?

10g is about 25% of tank volume. depends on the volume of rock work and sand and live stock requirements.. what works for us, may or may not work for you.
if your tests and tank look good at 5, why change?

When I filled my tank I kept track of how much water I put in. I have 29 gallons of water. I am just trying to get a good handle on the algae issue. It is getting better. I switched to Rowahos phosphate remover. I am using chemipure Rowahos and filter floss. I started making my own salt again. I was buying it for a LFS. I use Ro/di water. It looks like the dinoflagellates is gone (fingers crossed) That took lights out for 5 days and major water changes while the lights were out.
I am still getting a slight film on my glass that I have to remove every other day.
Thanks for your help, it's really appreciated

Great. So you are doing about 15% wc. Slight film on glass should be the least thing to worry about. As long as it's not spreading on the bed or rocks you should be ok. are you testing for po frequently? Once a week should be good to make sure your rowaphos is working. If it creeps up, change it. Eventually it will settle down.
I clean my glass at least twice a week.

Curious. Those running mp10's, how far down in tank are they and what power and program(s) are you using?

I have mine in the middle and running it about 55-60% and in yellow which is crest mode I believe... I think i am just going to get another one.. I think i am going to back off of the maxspect

Thanks. I may lower mine an inch or two. Running at 90% now in reef crest about 2 inches above centerline. I think I need more motion lower...

I looked at the gyre but until it's apex ready...not going to do it. I like being able to change programs remotely. Even though I don't do it too often, it's a deal breaker for me..

Ya it might be smart to bring it down to center. Just don't too low to stir up the sand or get that annoying dip

Same reason I am going with another mp10. Like my tech, controller is on the list. Pretty soon I won't have to get out of bed.. Have all the nest and wemo products and automatic vac for the dog hair!!?

Now how can we automate the job

Dropped them both to dead center. No sand moving. I'll see what it looks like In the morning. Also took the eheim pump out of its box. One step closer to actually installing it..maybe tomorrow night..maybe Saturday. Does the fusion plumbing fit on that output, or will I need an adapter? Looks big...

Yea. Automation is it. We went with the ecobee thermostat. I liked it's remote sensors. We also have wemo, sonos, etc. I was playing with a revolv home control center too. Interesting. But it still won't go to work for me... :spin2:

So I went on vacation....... think we all know where this is headed.

I do not really now exactly how it happened, but my ato was completely empty when I returned and all the water and kalk was in my tank!! A lot of stringy algae, fish were white and coral did not look good. Did a quick water change and started skimming wet. Took out all the kalk of the ato and will just going back to doing two part dosing by hand until i invest in pumps and a controller

Frustrated, but I tell everyone, the joys of trying to put the ocean in your livingroom. So far i have lost two fish ( one clown that had a lot of great personality. Everything is closed up on the coral side, so i really dont know how they will pull through.. Going to do a water change again today and move around rock also..want to go with less rock.

Bright side is I got to escape this cold to DR for a week!!

Sorry for your loss.
Stories like this always worry me. Especially the week before I head south to the Keys.

Well, like you said- at least you got out of the cold for a bit..

I think I'll rinse my ato tank of kalk before I leave..

Good luck getting it all back together!

Enjoy.. these are the days I wished we still lived in Miami

Smart thinking about washing out the kalk, part of me wants to go back to kalk in the ato, but i am holding true to doing it correctly with two part

Just finished a massive water change and rock rework.. will post pics when everything settles down.

.

yea. I'm putting off the inevitable two part system. Did it manually for a while and it didn't show me any added growth so I stopped. But I see a dosing pump in my tanks future...I was looking in the used section last month..guess I'll keep looking..

Getting ready for more snow now...

If I ever go into another career, a meteorologist would be it. Still keep my job when I am wrong. Shoveled and salted my driveway twice already and the snow is still coming down.

Did another rock remodel.. Finally got it where I wanted it to go. Did another water change and then put the radions back into radiant schedule, but longer. Figures I start all over again. Maybe my new schedule was great for corals but too much evaporation. Saved it though and maybe once everything looks healthy again, will go back to it.

Now we wait and see what coral recover

Hope it works out. I took the plunge and ordered the brs 2 part kit. Washed my ato out and filled with straight rodi. I'll manually dose until I can find a reasonably priced doser. I saw a jaebo that seems decent for 100. It's not a bubble magus but if it does the job...
Also reworked my rocks with some new dry I had cooking.
Set up my apex afs and tested it out. Works great!
Off to warm for a bit....I had enough of this weather,..

Enjoy...I am missing DR already. Looks like I have lost all my SPS, birdsnest might be holding on... Zoas are slowly opening up ( minus my blue hornets) RBTA and its sexy shrimp held on and that is all she wrote. Moving around live rock spiked my levels a little..

I still havent figured out what to do.. need to get a controller, another powerhead, dosers... just dont know which road i want to go down...

Bring a jacket...It has been cold down in FL

Reduck are you running the Apex Jr or regular apex? Thinking of going jr with two brs dosing pumps.

using regular Apex system.

I have been eyeing DOS now since its seamless. Read some unflattering comments on the Jebao doser. While the BM doser seems to be the standard, and BRS close second, DOS has nice integration and pretty simple setup.

Good luck..
Ron

Saw those reviews as well. The DOS looks amazing, especially the ability to do automatic water changes. Then you have to get another doser and I will have to explain to my wife how this credit card bill. I think I should be safe with the jr. You put all the probes in the return area?

Yep. All probes in the main chamber. Quite crowded in there..

Sorry. Just noticed you said Apex Jr. I would highly suggest the full version. I thought Jr would suffice too, and I quickly regretted it and sold it. Better off buying once, than multiple times. If you add more than 2 modules to the Jr the price is almost that of the full version.

And you will add modules. Because they are easy...

Ha. I have already up sold myself from a reef keeper basic to the Apex Jr.. I looked at all the modules and feel the only think i would really be doing would be adding a ph sensor and the dos if I go the route.. thinking of just doing the brs dosers and putting them on the basic timers.

I have many hobbies and like the spread the "hobby money" around them all evenly..so i think the jr is the way to go for me.
