How do I even get it out lol? It so far down and really stuck

unplug first..
you have to pull the 90 degree press fittings out of the back wall. usually just turn them to break loose, then out. then slowly pull up. the whole pump will come up. I don't recall if it has suction cup feet holding it down. maybe stick your hand down there and wiggle and pull upwards on the pump itself. Should come straight up without much fuss.
Have a bucket nearby..

My arms aren't long enough to reach it. It must def have suction cups and I can't get my hand down and under to release the suction cups. I will wait till my husband gets home later, he has longer arms! In the meantime I put in an old maxijet 900 in the display to keep the water moving. Urghhh I don't need this now with just getting over a major dinos outbreak :(

Sorry. this stuff happens.

the pump can be disassembled for cleaning, so once you get it out, it may be a good idea to take it apart, and hose it off.

Put it in a bucket and plug it in to see if it comes back to life once its clean. Maybe soak in dilute white vinegar too in case theres a build up on/in it.
Just don't forget to rinse real well before it goes back in the tank.

Good luck.

Curios whoever has the ghost skimmer... How high do you have the cup sitting and how open is your valve. I have been running this skimmer for 3 weeks now. The microbubbles stopped, but I can't seem to find the right setting to get a thicker, darker skimmate. Any help would be appreciated

Mine is about 4 inches up and the valve is about 3/4 open, count turns from closed to all the way open.. Skimmate is dark but not syrupy. Then again, not a heavy feeder either and not a lot of fish.
It takes some tinkering.

Super excited to join the thread! I love my tank.

Here's my equipment list so far:
- IM Fusion 40
- Radion XR15w Pro
- MP10 (adding one more)
- Eheim 75W Heater
- Cadlights PLS-50 (Picking it up tomorrow.)

Tank is mainly going to be SPS dominated -- going to have the bottom filled with GSP and Zoa's! Maybe Acan's if they feel like living in my tank this time.... lol.

I have been having algae issues. I had the dreaded dinos but looks like they are gone (fingers crossed) I still have a light dusting of brown algae on my sand. I think it is diatoms. I just tested my water and everything is good except my ph is low. @7.9
What should I do and what is the easiest way to do this?

There is no easy way. Well, yes there is. Turn lights out for 3 days. That will clean it up for a while. But you should figure out why it's there. Flow? Husbandry? 7.9 is in the low acceptable range. Is this daytime (lights on) or night (moons or off)? Night usually drops. To raise, you can use kalkwasser in your top off jug. I wouldn't jump to that till you cover all your basics. Which salt are you using? What is your sg? How much do you feed? How often are your water changes? Are you using rodi water for everything? What's you phosphate at?

How are you measuring ph? Meter or test kit? When you measure is important too..
I'm sorry. It's a lot of questions. But to find the root cause you'll need to know..

I had my lights our for 4 days and during the lights out I did water changes. Dinos are gone, but I am getting a dusting of light brown on my sand bed. This looks like diatoms to me. I just switched to coral pro salt. I was buying my salt water directly from a LFS. I use rodi water. I tested my water today and everything was good except ph. My sg i 125-126. I don't feed too much. I change water every 10 days to 2 weeks but have been changing more water lately because of the dinos. Phosphates are 0. I am running chemipure, phosban and charcoal for now. Ph is the only thing low so I am wondering if that is causing issues.

That's a good start! How is the flow? Are there dead spots on the sand bed?
The mix of media is a bit redundant. If you are using Phosban and charcoal you can probably do without the chempure.
How are you measuring ph? Let's make sure that result is accurate before continuing. I know I freaked over 7.8 myself for a while and went through all this. Turned out my handheld meter went out of calibration. It was actually 8.1. Now I check my apex probe every 4 months.

If you are dead sure your reading is accurate you can try adding kalkwasser to your top off water. I'd only do half a dose per jug at first. It will avoid a fast upswing.

Have you checked your fresh sw to see what that reads? I'm also using rscp and it's almost always mixing to 8.1x @ 1.026 @ 79 degrees.

Or..hate to recommend this, if it's algae for sure, you can try Algaefix marine for a week or two. It says it's harmless to all reef creatures,

I would make certain your measurements are accurate first..then you can decide your course of action.

I am getting ph reading from test kit w color charts. It's probably not the most accurate way. The main pump seems a little weak to me so I have to Jaebo wp10 wavemakers. Flow is better with that
I keep vacuming my sand bed to get rid if the light briwn dusting in my sand
My tank is near a window with a lot of natural light. Could that have an impact on my tank? Everything looks happy and the corals are loving the new Red Sea coral pro salt

it could. you could try covering that side of the tank with cardboard and see if it goes away. if its a direct hit of sunlight it is most likely the cause. depending on season I close blinds that direct sunlight into the LR. Indirect light isn't as bad. direct is.

Yea. I switched to the red sea cp and my corals love it too. The Radion helped. My duncan sprouted 3 new heads. Scolys are fat and happy. Want to add more but need to wait till the tank returns to 'normal' maintenece schedules for a week or so.

try not vacuuming for a few days. stirring up the sand bed may disperse it through the tank. I stopped vacuuming my tank last week. Its on the last day of lights out. Tomorrow it will just get blues. Bed is pristine. Skimmer has been working overtime removing the dead cyano. I also stopped water changes until I am sure its gone as some outbreaks get worse when fresh water is introduced.
I'll know by the weekend if I have my outbreak cured.

good luck!

Boy, do I ever wish I got battery back ups for my mp's! We have a generator with whole house feed, just in case. But i would sleep a lot better knowing the tank is running...
Stay safe if you are in the path of this storm!

Curious how much water do you change out with a normal water change and how often do you do it?

Average 10-14g every 2 to 3 weeks. Minimum is 10 for me. 25-30%. I do larger if see nitrates. Been stable for a while though....:)

:eek1:

I do 10 gallons every two weeks. Have been doing it that way with no issues. I have been stable for a while.

That is why I am going back and forth whether or not I was to set a fuge and some macro in one of the media baskets

Curious. Those running mp10's, how far down in tank are they and what power and program(s) are you using?

you both seem to be doing at least 10 gallons every 2 weeks. I have been doing 5 gallons. Maybe it's just not enough of a water change?
