Owners Thread: Innovative Marine Fusion 40

Well today will be my last post in this thread. It's been a lot of fun working with you all on your tanks. I've learned a lot in the past year with my 40 and it's time to move on. The 40 will be drained and occupants moved into their new home. I have a few interested parties on the tank and accessories.
I'll be posting in my build thread over in the blog section for a bit, but due to some other circumstances, I'm moving to another site.
Reefing is a part of my life. So are you all! One big happy family.
Thank you for participating here and best of luck with your tanks (both present and future)

Ron

So long Reduck! This site will surely miss your knowledge and good nature. Good luck with the new tank!

Really enjoying my tank.. Just wanted to share some shots. Have a little gha from being gone for two weeks and a little too much feeding.. Overall happy how the tank is doing.

Its funny but sometimes the less we fuss with our tanks the better they do. Glad the tank did well while you were away. Looks awesome!

Just ordered the Icecap controller to hook up my Maxspect Gyre to the Apex (that is still in the box). I promised myself that I would install everything at the same time since I intend to create a neat and orderly "mounting wall" in the cabinet.

So, since I am installing all this stuff and a Sicce pump at the same time, should I do anything to prepare the things going into the tank?

Ron,

We just "met" and you are leaving me? Lemme guess, you are going to say "it's me, not you" or something similar? I know, you just want to "see" other people . . . Am I not enough for you? I can change. I can be whatever you need me to be . . . Just don't leave . . .

The cosmos has spoken. We are meant to be. It is fate. You don't want to mess with fate or the cosmos. My therapists have been working with me on my "issues" since my release from the prison hospital . . . But, if you are leaving me, it has all been for naught . . . My salty tears will contaminate my tank. Do you want that? Do you?

Well, before you leave, just know that every carnival-prize stuffed animal that you find at your doorstep (for the rest of your life) will be a reminder of our time together . . .

All kidding aside, your knowledge and wisdom shall be missed. You have been a treasure in this forum and we have appreciated our time with you.

Fair winds and followings seas to you, your family, your fish, your coral, your CUC, and even your fuge inhabitants!

Best,

JDS

Thanks all. My new tank is up and running. The 40 is now in the garage awaiting it's new owner. When we started this thread, it was solely for us to share our experiences and builds with the 40. I'm no longer in that category.
It's amazing how much interest this thread gets. Lots of hits. We did good. You guys and girls keep on it!

Like I said, we are all still friends and family. I'll be around from time to time just to keep Biz in line....:p

Btw biz...your tank does look great. Apparently it likes when you go away...

Here's some teasers of my new set up.

Heat? I have gotten only the one recommendation for a heater for my tank from my post (which I must order before I start building my "non-rats nest" wiring control center.

The rec was for the Finnex submersible titanium (300 watt).

I have also been looking at the JBJ True Temp with controller (http://www.marinedepot.com/JBJ_True...um_Heaters-JBJ_Lighting-JB1531-FIHTTH-vi.html) and the Finnex with controller (http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/finnex-hmo-heater-w-digital-led-controller.html)

So, please chime in, which heater (brand) and which size (wattage)? I have an Apex, but like the redundancy of the controlled heater.

For additional consideration, I like right outside NYC.

Much obliged.

I run the cobalt neo-therm heater. I believe I have the 100 or 150.. Forgot. I have it plugged in to my apex and have the temp set a little lower on the lcd display on heater. Run the jäger on my mixing station.

Heater can be a crap shoot. Some people will run two, in case one fails but since we are running smaller tanks, don't think it's an issue.

You are plugging it in to the apex so you can go with a basic one and save the money

Looking good sir. I like it

Yes, I will behave. I figured since you are leaving, I have to give more technical responses instead of sarcastic ones. At least I will try :)

I went with two 100 W Jagers. It took a bit to dial them in but they seem steady. One would have been sufficient by the way but I went with two in case one malfunctions. In the future I need to hook them up to a sensible temp controler of some sort. But thinking I will go with an Apex in the fall so maybe I hold out for a bit.

I had picked up some live rock from a local reefer that was tearing down. I noticed during a water change that the rock came with flatworms. I treated with flatworm exit and either the flatworm exit or the die off of the flatworms nuked my mini-brittle stars too. The rock also came with some bubble algae and another nuisance algae. I am thinking about just bleaching my rock and starting over?

How much rock did you get from them? Used lr is always hard because you really don't know what is going on with the rock. If you don't mind to wait 3-5 months while you cook then yes. Or just keep rolling and take care of things as they come up. BA is not that big of deal.. Good quality water and an emerald crab will do the trick

So, my girlfriend is obsessed with getting a dragonet. I know they require a healthy copepod supply. Do I have a chance in hell to produce enough pods with one media basket converted into a fuge? What about both sides converted? Or will I require a hang on option similar to what Choss posted above?

Hey, if your tank is new you should wait and start building your pod population.
I do have a mandarin dragonet, and he's a healthy little guy. I've been feeding him frozen brine and bloodworm daily (sometimes 2x).

If you look back at my posts, I have a video and some brief instructions of creating a cope population aka fuge.

Update Número Dos:

Final Mock Up (except for the reeflink, ATO, and gyre controller - the tank is presently using those, but, there is allocated space for those):

To give you an idea of the final, I bought the white IM stand. I plan to install this "door" in the middle of the left side of the cabinet as a "false wall." Thus, when you open the actual door, you will see my door as a wall and have direct access to the gyre controller, the Apex controller, the ATO, and the heater controls, with all the "mess" and Apex modules out of sight, but, accessible for service by opening the inner door. I am also installing a powered LED light to make service and sight that much easier.

And once I get it all installed and wired, somebody is going to talk me through actually setting everything up on the Apex, right?

Skimmer for the IM 40

Skimmer for the IM 40

is the tunze 9004 skimmer the best one for the innovative marine 40. I have to buy one in the next couple days and I want the best one. All input is appreciated. Thanks

I run the IM Ghost and it does a fine job. It takes a while to break in but once you get it tuned it's solid. I have no personal experience with the Tunze but I know some on here love it. If I remember correctly the Tunze 9004 will only fit in one of the outside chambers, 1 or 4, so it will replace one of your baskets.

I run the 9004 and it works great. Not the quietest skimmer but really pulls nasty stuff out and easy to clean. I'd definitely recommend it.
