Owners Thread: Innovative Marine Fusion 40

I responded in my post, but forgot to recommend.. aquamaxx hob-1 is amazing, and great results..I just dont like the look of it.. not clean

Guys i've been running my 40 fusion for almost a year now, love this tank but i'm not convince the ghost skimmer is doing squad for this tank. Anybody else notice the same or have change over to a different skimmer with better results?

I have completed "Operation No Rats' Nest

Josh that came out great!

Hi all...stopping by to check in. Looks like you are all under control.
New tank is doing great. latest toy is Apex PMK. Pretty cool seeing real time par measurements.

Other than that I'm starting to think SPS...

See ya!

Okay, I think I deserve an award for spending the last week reading 98 pages of this thread!
Thank you for everybody here for the advice you have given which has allowed me to make some pretty good informed decisions on my new 40 that I set up two days ago.

I'm by no means new to this game, but its been a long time since I've had something this small and loving it. Currently breaking down my 180 gal. Full blown SPS reef tank with every imaginable bell and whistle. Even though the tank is fully automated down to automatic water changes, its just gets to be to much.

I'm really looking forward to simplifying my life and enjoying the 40. I'm still waiting for some things to come in and need to pull some things off my other aquarium, but so far so good. Hope to post some pics soon.

Thanks for all the insight with this aquarium.

That's my biggest issue. Tanks in our living room wife wants it clean looking. Seriously The ghost skimmer doesn't do much except make noise , collection is mostly clean from bursting bubbles.

On a side note, there has been some recent questions about the Sicce 2.0 and the adaptors. (great pump by the way) It seems a lot of people have been getting a reducer straight from the pump output to 1/2" This will work, but it also reduces the flow. Instead, get a Insert Y Fitting - 3/4 inch Insert x 1/2 inch Insert x 1/2 inch Insert. This will allow you to use the full output of the pump. It will stay 3/4" until it splits into two 1/2". I got one at Lowe's, but if you can't fine one, marinedepot has them.

Yep, I have one in my fish closet. I bought the HD one to hold me over until the Y arrived, but found out I had to turn down flow anyways. I figured since we are well above the OEM pump, I would just leave it. Maybe I am lazy, but I am going with that one.

Then 9004 or figure out ghost. You have a pic of collection cup? I don't mind helping trying dialing it in. I battled with it for a while and finally have it working well.

Very cool, just pulled the whole unit out today to make sure everything was working correctly and nothing was stuck in the impeller or anything also cleaned the cup so i'll have to take a pic in a few days of what it makes. What do you mean about dialing her in? Unfortunately as we both know it isn't adjustable although I'm now wondering if raising the whole unit might allow a bubble column instead of the bubble just bursting by the collection cup.

The "dialing" was a figure of speech... Gearing up for the school year :(

When i first got the ghost I slid the black hose enough where the pump had a decent suction on bottom.. I wrapped some flitter floss and shoved it down the outlet side to reduce bubbles. I started the cup just below the water line in the skimmer so I wouldn't have bubbles coming out the sides. Opened the air valve all the way and then slowly turned it a quarter turn until I had some decent head. ( said this out loud while my wife was in the room :) ). Once I had it coming over the top, did one more quarter turn and then left it alone. I now run a tube from the skimmer to the outside just to help with exchange. My house is pretty well insulated so needed the extra air.

I almost broke down and bought the aquamaxx, but just couldn't bring myself too it. Now I have so much crap in my collection cup it is crazy. IM has amazing service too if you want to pick their brains

Welcome. You are going to enjoy the tank for sure. I know about things being too much, this is a great size you can play around with and have more hobbies

Humm not sure i'm getting you on some of what you wrote, cant see this type of skimmer being adjustable. As long as the pump is working and clean (impeller isn't damaged) and the air lines are connected correctly with out leaks its pretty much a set it and forget it. Only real adjustments is which compartment its in, what direction is it facing, how high is the water level (really determined by the camber) and lastly the cup height. Please don't take this as offensive since i know your taking the time to write and help so i do thank you. May be it just me or the tank but I can't figure it out yet.

Ha. I teach in the South Bronx and married to a Dominican.. Not much bothers me.

IMO, I see the skimmer as adjustable . The red band is adjustable for the collection cup and the air intake plays a large part in it. Too high of cup and no air will get you no where and too much air and low cup.. The water runneth over. The ghost is very touchy, lot of reviews are that way while others say it took a while to dial it in. I wouldn't recommend just turning it on and forgetting it. Need some time to adjust it or move on... Just don't slip into insanity. :)

Ok so we have two settings we both agree on 1 being the height of the skimmer and 2 the air valve. How does one adjust the air valve?

Turning the threaded nob at the top of the skimmer. If you take off the collection cup, you will a change in the amount of bubbles being created by the pump. What I did in the beginning is have the air intake valve fully open.. One more turn and the cap comes off. The collection cup just sitting below water line. Then slowly adjusting both height and value until you get desired skimmate to fit the needs of your tank to get it where it's skimming not just blowing bubbles.

Hope this helps

While we are on the ghost skimmer discussion. Does anyone know how to get rid of the micro bubbles in the DT that this skimmer is putting out? I've checked the pump connections and they are all ok and the air valve is maybe 3/4 of the way shut and pulling decent amount of gunk. I've had this skimmer on my tank since 5/5/15 so it's definitely broken in. I've tried calling I.M. And have not been able to talk to anyone. Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks in advance.

I use the Tunze 9004. It works great. Highly recommend it.

ok everyone I have a problem. Keep in mind Im new to the game....

I purchased a Hydor Smart Level Control ATO System. That system doesn't come with a return pump so I had to but one. Keep in mind the top of my tank is almost 6' high.

So here is where the problem lies......

When the sensor would recognize that the water was low the pump would turn on and start flowing water. But the pace was extremely fast and by the time the sensor sensed that it was high enough the water level was too high. I went to the store 3 different times and tried 3 different pumps. They were wither to fast with too much water or couldn't even get the water to the top of the tank.

So I am thinking about going to a Tunze Osmolator Universal 3155??????

Any thoughts? Who has that tunze? you like it?

I lovethe Tunze. The only change I made in the setup was to move the alarm switch to its own magnet mount (higher up on the back of the tank. This is because the alarm will sound when you put your arm in the tank. But it is great. Highly recommend it.
