About to purchase (hopefully!)

About to purchase (hopefully!)

I'm about to order my IM Fusion 40 ... been reading all the posts and researching like crazy. Here is the set-up I'm hoping to go with ...

IM Fusion 40 - tank and stand
AM Hydrofill Controller & pump
Aquamax hob-1 : was going with the ghost, but I've read too many stories about it not working great. Didn't want to hang something off the back, but seems like I might need to
EcoTech Marine Radion XR15w Gen 3 - just one - might put the wide angle lens on (was going with the xr30w ... but I think it might be too much.
2 Custom Caddy baskets
Cobalt Aquatics Neo-term 200 watt heater w. LED display
Ecotech MP10 pumps with controller x 2

Seriously thinking of getting the Aqua controller - but it sounds scary !!

I am not new to reef keeping. Had a 80g softies system for 7 years in California, then 125g ish SPS system for 6 years - got out about 5 years ago. Learned lot of lessons ... I miss my tanks ... looking to get back in avoiding some of the mistakes I already made !!

Looking for a RO system - I really wanted to just go buy prepared water, but that is going to be very costly.

Thoughts?

I need help with the possibility of replacing the pump that goes with it. I'm not plumbing 'handy' ... is there a pump that takes the same size tubing I can just switch ... or should I stick with what comes with it?

Anyone want to tell me the Aqua is not as scary as it seems?

Sue

the x30 is def not too much. If you run it at 60% you'd be at 100% on the 15.
I run mine at 65% every day.

Your list is superb.

The controller might sound scary, but once you get past the setup, it's a breeze. I don't know how I did all that stuff before. Now, it's cake. Everything is controlled from a tablet or phone. The peace of mind it provides is priceless.

Buy a rodi. Dragging water back from the store is not fun. I was dragging back 20g every two weeks. 10lbs a gallon. You can pick up a spectrapure refurb, for like 125. I posted a link a few pages back.

Stock pump, there's a couple replacements and I know the eheim requires some fiddling but it's not too bad.

Welcome back to the addiction. Good luck with your plans. We are here to help!

Anyone know exactly how big the box that the tank comes in is? UPS always holds my packages and Im curious if ill be able to fit it in my car if they do.

It's actually only slightly bigger than the tank by a few inches. I was able to fit it in my vw golf along with the stand. The stand gave me more problems than the tank. Folded back seat down, pushed passenger seat all the way forward...fit.
It's a tall tank though. If you drive a compact YRMV.

Gonna take about 1/3 to 1/2 of the sand out of my 14G bio-cube along with all of the rock and move it into the new tank so it will be easily cycled and I can move the fish over quickly. Gonna turn my 14g biocube into a Quarantine tank since I will finally be able to get more fish. Was already over my limit in the 14g with 2 clownfish.

Here she is..... Hope she stays that way. My good friend and neighbor is watching the tank, he is a cop... so he was making his report while I told him what to do :D

Water change tomorrow and we are set!

IMO i would start with new sand...a moved sand bed can release a lot of crap into the new tank.

Nice to start fresh and clean with the new bed

She's up and running.. Equipment lost so far is tunze 9004,reef angel controller, kessil 350, tunze nano Ato, IM media basket (thanks reduck) and 2x mp10's (yet to be installed as they are still running in my frag system).

Things that still need to be done are installing trim around tank and stand bottom to cover plywood/foam and install the water movers and battery back-up.

Stock list is 3x rainbow rose nems, assorted zoas, 1x jawbreaker (testing the waters lol) and encrusted acros and montis from the other tank, numerous high end zoas from my 105g are going into it I just want to take it slow at first.fish wise is just a pair of breeding percula so far with a starry blenny waiting to be caught in my garage (won't be easy =)..

If you ordered from Marine Depot, you'll get a box that's quite a bit larger than you'll be expecting. They ship with another considerably larger box stuffed with biodegradable packing peanuts around the Innovative Marine box. Mine came WELL protected. It also required me to lay down one of the back seats in my Honda Pilot to get it in the cargo area. The box MD sends it in is so large that it's definitely a 2-person lift job - not because the tank is insanely heavy; it's just impossible to deal with that giant box on your own. That's how my order was packed and shipped about two weeks ago.

So they only real issue I had was what in the world to do with all the packing peanuts! They do melt when they come in contact with water, but your shipment will come with an absolutely massive amount!

Hi guys noob here!
Just wanted to get some input on starting this cycle;
So I just got a IM 40, and filled her up with water and sand. I'm also waiting for the water to settle so I can place my live rocks.
Here's the deal:
One fish store recomended using shrimp to start cycle, and another store recommend to use a dramsel (yellow tail). I looked online and read that yellow tail damsel are great for starting tanks and aren't as aggressive as others. (Both stores are well known saltwater stores in Orlando)
So my question is what did you guys do to start your cycle?

Owners Thread: Innovative Marine Fusion 40

Cycled liverock then inverts then fish you like and coral. Damsel is a bad idea they can get really grumpy and you will never catch it

Been forum lurking for a while now. Going to start one of these as soon as we payoff the house hopefully this summer. Really like the input you all give I have been out for 3 years after I quit running the LFS to work at WF

Shrimp method works, but is kinda messy and smelly after a bit. And putting a live fish In the tank to deal with the ammonia burning it is kinda cruel IMO.

My preferred method, by far the easiest and cleanest is using pure ammonia. You can get it Here. And you just dose the ammonia according to the instructions until the tank is cycled.

Do it with amnonia or Dr Tims. Please don't use a live fish. Or buy or beg a hunk of live rock from an established system. Don't rush the cycle.
Welcome!
