Owners Thread: Innovative Marine Fusion 40

First prototype done, Need to work on the grating in the bottom part to try and get a more even flow.

There is also very limited mounting options available back there since there is no room under the lip where the water pours in

Well It works.. about 70% of the water falls down evenly across the pad. Need to change the mounting on the side though to block water there and a small lip at the end and all the water will pour evenly on the pad.
And Shockingly enough for a first attempt, the mounting fits perfectly on top of the InTank media baskets and lines up right with the edge.

Oh. You are fast. I just thought of something else that would be cool. Make chamber extensions. Stick in acrylic dams to put on the chamber dividers so we can raise the tank level to cover the return elbows!

Draft #2 works perfectly.

The side and back walls block in the flow to keep it going over the filter floss. And if the filter floss gets plugged or the holes do it still has enough room to pour over the back edge so it doesn't overflow.

Totally impressed. Very nicely done!

That looks good! Great job. Is that your emblem in the middle?

On another note, I did my first water change today. I was ready to do 10gs, but when I filled up my 5g bucket, I quickly changed my mind. I remembered adding about ~30lbs of live sand, and ~30lbs of live rock, so there was no way I had 40g of liquid in there.

Next time I may do a 7.5g water change.

Okay, MOSTLY final product.
Just need to work on tweaking the drain a tad bit more for a more even flow.

Have to make the holes really small to get the even flow.

Need to let this last one dry and test it and see, but it should work.

I do have to wait for the new bed for the laser cutter to come in. this one isnt flat and very open which leads to a bit of warping on small cuts.

Sorta.. Lol

And I normally do about 10% weekly, so on the 40G i would just round up and do a 5G water change..

On My 14g bio-cube I did a ~36% water change with a 5 gallon bucket cause that was all I had. But I did it about every 2 weeks then.

Gotcha, I think everyone's tank varies. Depending on sand, and live rock.

Guess if I were to do a 10g water change it would of been ~30% of what I have in there. Then I could do that every two weeks? Versus doing 5gal every week?

Also, I tried cleaning some of the sandbed...and well that just seemed to suck the sand up. Are you guys using a siphone?

That's awesome! Need field testers?

Yea, I round up to 10g...you can try the calculators in the chemistry forum. I think my total volume is actually 37g
5 just doesn't feel right. If I did it every week, yes, but I go 2.
Once you get comfy with your tests you'll find that groove that works for you.

Last Design works perfectly. left it up overnight and have a mostly even covering all over the filter floss.

As far as I know, this will only work with InTank's basket though, dont know about IM's cause I dont have one to test.

I'd say I would try one for you, but I am using inTank floss holders only..

practice holding the syphon about an inch over the bed...
I'm actually using a eheim gravel vac just for bed maintenance. it works great.
Use it maybe once every 2-3 weeks now.

The dimensions of the 2 look similar, I just don't know if it would stay on yours to be honest.

yea. its a bit different. It hangs on the divider and slides under the grill, so it does seem to disperse water across a little better. I wouldn't even use them but occasionally some pellets get away from the fish and end up there. Rather them be there than rotting in the sumps..I change it every three days regardless. Its cheap enough..

Just curious what you guys have for PH in your tank?
Doing 1/4 tsp per gallon of kalk to start with in ATO trying to get my alkalinity to climb somewhat.

After a day of the ATO running with Kalk my alkalinity has gone from 128ppm to 129ppm (7.17 to 7.22 DKH). But PH has been higher than normal, I'm at 8.24 now.

my lows are 8.17(night)-8.33... I dose my Alk during night.
