Owners Thread: Innovative Marine Fusion 40

Let us pray she never reads this thread....you, sir, are 100% correct in your assumption. That seed was planted the second she saw it and wanted it. "Well you know these can get pretty big and shouldn't go in our smallish tank...so when it grows, we will have to move to the larger tank or find it a new home" was the quote I believe...

Nice.. Love the tang, and smart man. Let the wife fall in love with it, and when it gets larger...oh honey we need a new tank. So smart

Thanks, since the tank will be in a corner I removed most of it. Seeing the way the glass is arranged makes it easy to understand the filtration. I also like being able to see if anything is stuck down there.

Smart..enjoy setting up the tank. We have really enjoyed the 40.. Of course we now want larger ones, but it a great size

Good idea. Though it may spill more light out than you want at night when the fuge light is on.... You could always shield it with a thin sheet of abs plastic too. Take your time and enjoy the setup....fun is about to happen!

Some blue and green candy cane ended up in my tank today and a sweet green torch.. did not know how that happened.

I think I want to keep the tank upstairs in my house and keep it limited to my area in the tv room...so with that being said, I think I am going to go with the reefer 350 instead of the 450.

Not set in stone.. options are open.

I'd be curious how loud that system is when it's running....once you stick a skimmer in the sump..some sump systems are pretty loud, some are barely noticble. It's a decent enough size, and the price is right..add a skimmer and the stuff from your 40 and you are good to go...but you will need a second light.......and I'm not selling mine any more. It's now a G3 Pro..

Jeez Reduck. These Duncans grow like a weed. It came with 7 heads and already 4 of them are starting to grow new heads.

Hah! Yes they do sprout heads on occasion...let it go or frag it up...mine will get split this summer. It's over crowding itself....

Yep we do.. It is a bad thing now though :(. I even had the whole basement done in spray insulation too. Like my utility bills low!

Yup... I'm gonna have to do the same thing. Been noticing my pH dropping lower than I'm comfortable with, particularly when people are home and the A/C is on. Interestingly when the girls are away from home, my pH is just fine... I do believe there is an inverse relationship between my tank's pH and the number of words spoken by humans in the house. :)

Right now I've got the skimmer off and a nice old-school air pump in the sump because I've been treating one of the clowns with Praziquantel and Metronidazole. Noticed a significant amount of white, stringy poop at first and then secondarily a bit of a white lesion behind the fish's left pectoral fin. Looked a bit like the top of a cotton swab. But seems to be responding to the medications pretty well. Not exactly sure what bug he had/has, but it doesn't present anything like ich, marine velvet, or Brooklynella. Very localized to that one spot and otherwise that entire fish (as well as his tankmate) appear to be totally healthy.

Not reef related, just wanted to mention that our old girl left us last night. She had a massive seizure and it was all she could take.....

feeling a bit miserable as even with the weekly quite large water changes > 9-13 gallons ... reduced feeding ... 48 hour 'dark' tank ... increased MP10 ... twice-a-week floss removal to remove excess food ... skimmer running on wet-skim ... and Chemi-Pure Elite ... still having algae bloom (although much better, but sections that remain appear to be growing). Now seeing little bubbles on glass after returning home this weekend, and on higher exposed areas of rock.

Is this just normal? I have a pot of ROWA phos sitting here? Should I add it?

Phosphate reading 0.25 ... not sure where it's coming from. Just tested top-off water which is also measure 0.25. I have a 5 stage RODI, nothing else going in tank. I store the water in my 'machine room' with the furnace ... could anything be leaching into that water?

What type of rock are you using? I feel that the hard part of this hobby is the beginning.. You are creating a reef system in a glass box in your living room... The rock may be leaching phosphates... IMO i wouldnt start dosing ROWA, I would just let it roll.

A lot of us use the food grade rubbermaids to hold our water. I usually only hold water that I am going to use that week. Sit back and enjoy a nice glass of wine.

What are you testing phosphate with? Coming out of rodi you shouldn't have phosphates. Or are you seeing phosphates in fresh salt water?

At start up they usually are leaching from the rock. (Most of the time) it will take time to get it out. Even with the rowaphos that will be a very aggressive treatment for a young tank. If you have very few coral, you could do it. I would say wait it out another week or two before you get aggressive. New tanks go through this phase.
Give it a couple of weeks.

Let's figure out why your rodi is passing so much Phosphates!

All LR - abt 25lb, LS about 33lb. The rock is the more expensive kind that looks like dead coral branches (Tonga?) - not super dense rock like my last 2 tanks. Was well seasoned. I am using Home depot 5g buckets (says food grade on bucket). I only hold water for one week - while I'm changing the water, I'm creating next week's water. Buckets and containers of water are sealed with lids ... everything food grade, even using real seawater containers as storage and using the occasional 4g of real seawater when I don't have time.

I'm using the SpectraPure MaxCap RO/DI system w/ manual flush (90 GPD) ... was brand new from Marine depot. I am using output from the blue tube !! LOL (have checked a million times that that's the right output!)

Cut back on feeding massively ... don't understand why I have a phosphate reading in my topoff water since the gauges say ZERO for output water. Could I have it hooked up wrong? The top-off water is sitting right next to the tank !? I must be doing something wrong ... can't figure it out. (I'm not new to reef tanks ... but this is totally confusing me!)

I believe the white tube is output. Blues at least in my case is input, red, down the drain and white is the output. That could explain your high phosphates. I use a similar storage method. I keep 40g on hand always. Never had an issue with any buckets or containers.
Check the plumbing again. I think you found your problem...
Let us know.

Even the best cured LR still will have some residual phosphates. Unless you picked it out of a tank that has been running for years, I would still expect to see some. Lfs no matter what they tell you do not cure LR long enough to be perfect. It would cost them way too much $.

So sorry to hear that. Gosh, that makes for a really bad day (week, month). I firmly believe that dogs should always out-live their people. I'd like to believe your girl is up there somewhere stealing toys from my Weimaraner. Really hate to hear that, Reduck. :(
