Owners Thread: Innovative Marine Fusion 40

First and foremost, welcome! Very nice tank indeed.

As for ato jugs, it depends on what you want to spend. I had a $15 jug that held 2.5g that I used for months. I got tired of filing it twice a week and bought a 5G acrylic tank off a guy on eBay for $75. That goes over a week between fills. Biz has a 9g custom acrylic but you don't want to know what he paid for it. That would easily go close to 2 weeks.

If it's a once a year trip and you don't want to invest a ton of money, I'd suggest you get a 10g blue water jug from a sports supply or big box store, fill it with rodi, and leave it outside the stand with the pump in it.... Then your tank sitter can observe it's level and adjust as needed.

If you are interested in the acrylic tanks, try this guy on eBay. His stuff is top notch and priced well.

This is the 2.5 I used that fit perfectly. Price went up a little. I'd be happy to give you mine but I think shipping it would make it a wash as far as expense. I don't use it anymore.

Not able to go through all 70+ pages right now but great threads, tons of great info. I've been manually topping off my tank but had to buy a ATO (went with Autoaqua Smart) because I'm going on vacation next month. and was wondering what containers is everyone using that could fit in the IM stand?

You don't want to see a pic of my water reserves! We are fortunate enough to have a largish room on the back of the house for our feathered family members. they get to look at 4x5g and 2x7g containers. I make rodi once a month and fill them all. That gives me enough for ato and two wc a month with about 5g for emergency needs. Plus I store my 2 20g brutes in there over the winter months.
I keep pondering a permanent install for the rodi and hard plumbing to this room. Carrying all that water up a flight of stairs isn't fun...but it's the price I pay for procrastination.

Lost the black-and-white clownfish this morning. Even after three rounds of PraziPro, MetroPlex, and Paraguard whatever internal parasite he had just got the best of him.

Did a large water change, cleaned the glass, stirred the sand, replaced the carbon and Purigen, and am now in the process of trying to figure out why the skimmer is blowing massive bubbles into the return chamber.

My wife is genuinely sad about the loss of "Ned" so I might have to make a trip to the LFS later.

Sorry for your loss. Even with the best treatment this still happens on occasion. It doesn't make it easier though.. :(

Well I finally had to do it. I ended up getting a Emperor Aquatics UV sterilizer. Been dealing with a bacterial bloom since a week after tank started, and nothing has helped. I cut the feeding, lighting, increased carbon changes, etc. But still bad enough i can't see through the tank from side to side.

They make good uv's! I have a 54w in my pond.
Hope it helps clear it out. I'd step up mechanical filtration while you are running it and skim wet. It should neutralize bacteria pretty quick and kill off most algae as a added plus.

Can't really step up the mechanical filtration. Already have the filter material from intank as well as polyfill down below. Running 2 bags in purigen one each side, gfo and carbon in reactor as well as skimmer running wet. Been running it like that for a month and no change.

That should be fine. Wasn't sure if you were all natural or not. The poly and floss should catch most of the mess. I'd watch it for a few days in case it clogs. I know when I fire it up in the pond skimmer in the late spring the media pads really gets a workout for a week or so till the water clears up....

Looking good sir! That tang is growing mighty fast. I think it is time to tell the mrs. how much the tang needs to swim more and be free :)

That really is looking great, Reduck. You've got a great balance of color. Very pretty without looking like we're walking into a rave.

And I totally agree with Bizacon... Mrs. Reduck, I'm sure, will be fully supportive of pulling the trigger on a new tank for her Tang when she understands how Tangs need lots of horizontal swim space! :)

Thanks. Not a big fan of not being able to help cure my animals - even a silly Clownfish.

On the bright side, I took a drive to a somewhat-LFS. Actually two of them in Knoxville, TN. Both had very high-quality, healthy-looking livestock. The staff seemed very knowledgeable in both and their display tanks all made sense as far as what species they selected as tankmates. So I returned home with another black-and-white Ocellaris and a little $20 paly frag. Nothing glamorous, but should give me some experience with a fairly hearty, inexpensive first coral. Been checking calcium, magnesium, phosphates, and of course all three nitrogenous compounds. Everything looks to be dialed in and stable, but I'm certain that there's a big difference between textbook water parameters and actually keeping a coral alive and flourishing!

Even more good news - one of the two stores is moving about 45 minutes closer to me. And the other one has TONS of supplements, equipment, dry & live rock, etc...
