Oxymonacanthus longirostris pair enters a mixed reef environment

365 days!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Nice work! That's a definite milestone with any fish...especially ones such as these.

My bigger one is chasing the smaller one after feeding time... But hanging out well, before feeding, after feeding the bigger went crazy...

I am not sure of the sex, the bigger one is having a black pelvic fin but I cant see the orange line and the smaller one is have a full orange pelvic fin..

Sounds like the smaller one is the male, which is strange since everyone else has stated their male is the more aggressive.

Also, most of these issues present themselves around feeding time.

Unfortunately in my tank, that is all day long!

Greetings friends. Today marks my one-year anniversary with my amazing pair of Oxymonacanthus longirostris. And quite a year it has been. Thanks to everyone who's come along for the ride so far and shared all of your experiences with this fish. I am proud of this thread and we all should be.

THANKS!

the small one

Very, VERY cool sir!

I remember when our pair clicked over the "one year" mark...it's definitely a good feeling. Congrats!

I will be attempting to join the OSFF club tonight! I call dibs on the pair coming up on DD tonight. That's how it works right? I call dibs and they are mine? (I know I tipped off potential rivals that they will be on DD, but I thought it would be fun)

I have nutramar ova.........and I have 2 oxymonacanthus longirostris females on order from diver's den! They maybe a bit on the skinny side but they say they are eating well and I will work to fatten them up! Looking forward to their arrival on Tuesday!

Great! Do you have the picture posted by them?

Mine were very very skinny upon arrival but they are slowly gaining weight. It does take longer than most other fish but just be diligent and you'll be all set.

Here is the picture of the pair. Glad to hear that yours are putting on weight.

Neat. Congratulations! It will be interesting to hear about the interactions between your females. Please do continue to share your progress. And good luck!

I might consider getting another pair of females if they continue to offer them...I wonder how well they'd play with my super angry/hungry male.

Are you planning on QT'ing Renton?

Well in the past 30 minutes I've decided I'm going to be on the lookout for the next 'pair' of filefish and if I get on there and they're both female I'm going to give them a shot. I think I'd be willing to do without other fish if I could get a nice little harem of OSFF since they are really the highlight of this tank.

I also wonder how well they'd behave with more. The sneak peek email only showed 'pair' so I guess I'll just have to be ready and online whenever they are listed in order to get them.
