Oxymonacanthus longirostris pair enters a mixed reef environment

Extra nifty. So far, it doesn't seem my situation warrants such a set up. Will keep an eye on the body weight. Seems really easy to see on the files. And you can definitely see when they've pigged out. Kind of bulges behind the gills.

Greetings friends. Files still doing well. Their pair behavior seems to be deepening. This morning they were interacting a lot and both of them but especially the male was taking on a darker blue and got a blue band on his snout!

Enjoy!:spin3:

wow, congrats guys. Things sure have come a ways since I kept some of these a few years back. I never was able to get mine to eat frozen and ending up just rotating pocillipora colonies (large brown, cheap) between my main display and the 60 gallon setup I kept the fish in.

Well fortunately mine has changed back to his normal color but unfortunately I didn't have a chance to take a pic yesterday. I did take one today though but definitely not as dark as he was yesterday.

Nice coloration...he's definitely "popping"!

Our female seems to have the best coloration between the two...this has always been the case.

That is real dedication. I'm almost embarrassed mine have been so easy so far.

Jammies

Jammies

Sorry for the blurry pic but it was dark. You get the idea. They always sleep wedged into the silicon like that. :hmm5: First time I've noticed their jammies.:eek1:

Just because I was worried that there might be something wrong, since I had never seen him like that before.

This morning my male was chasing the female quite a bit. She even went and sort of hid in a corner which I've never seen. While she was hanging there in the corner, he color became darker but in a very patchy way. When they were flirting the other morning, the darker blue was very much focused up by the snout. This morning, it was more patchy darkness underneath the normal coloring. Couldn't get a pic.

My guy has darkened his colors once again. He's been like this all day.

No joke. Since my camera sucks, I'll try to describe it as well. The yellow spots are outlined with a very dark red/brown, while the blue is at least a couple of shades darker than normal. The dorsal fin is a bright yellow, while the caudal fin has obvious blue coloring with the yellow spots.

You might think its just the lighting, but its not. For comparison, this was taken yesterday. Same lighting, same general area.

Well he has since changed back to his normal colors. He was looking quite radioactive for a while there! Kind of scared me at first but now that I see he is able to change back it doesn't worry me as much. You might be right small alien. Maybe he is looking for a mate. I wonder if the abundance of food, both prepared and live, is doing it.
