ozone?

I got an red sea 250mg/h unit with reactor and drier from a freind of mine for a great price. I have read all 3 articals and the ORP artical on RC about them, but I am wondering from anyone using them what was your results?

are you using a reactor or are you using your skimmer?
Algea improvement?
water clarity improvment?

Thanks for any personal info/exsperince you have would be great.

after reading the articals I am still not sure If I want to set it up.

I use ozone on my fish display system. Been running for a year. No algae in the tanks at all and water is crystal clear...in fact it doesn't even look like there's water in the tanks. I have no problem with parasites on the fish and they stay healthy and happy without the use of copper. I use an Aquacontroller III to monitor the ORP. I love it and have had zero problems. I'll soon be adding ozone to my new 215 at home. I think it's especially advantageous when used on FO and SPS tanks as they like more pristine water. HTH, Marcye

I have a percision marine skimmer that has a connection for ozone but everything I read said that the ozone reactor is the best way.

What do you think? I know that the ozone will over time crack/weaken the acrilic on the skimmer.

Well, I've seen no damage to the skimmer so far, but you will need to use ozone safe tubing and I've gone through a couple JG fittings. Just make sure you keep some carbon at the outlet of the skimmer to make sure all the ozone is removed, although a friend of mine who is an environmental engineer told me ozone is very unstable as 03 and is only viable for about 5-10 seconds. We made a small box out of eggcrate and zip ties and then place a bag of carbon in there right under the output of the skimmer. Works great.

Hi Mike...been watching your thread. Coming along VERY nicely. My target is 375-400. Also, I do better when I keep my drier media fresh, so I'd suggest putting that in a place you can get to it easily.

I read that you can bake your dryer media to remove the moisture.

what do you bake it at what deg.?

I know you can do it, but I just replace mine. I'll see if I can find that out for you.

Okay, a friend of mine recharges his and he says he bakes it for about 10 minutes at 350. As soon as it changes back to the original color, it's ready to go. Watch it as ovens aren't all the same and it could take less or more time. HTH, Marcye

Roger, poknsnok has two sets of dryer media, and oven cooks it when it changes color. Change the media, cook the wet and it's ready for the next change.

Absolutely. I'm going to put one on the new tank. I just want to give all the micro-flora and fauna a chance to develop and really get established before I do. I can't believe how much better my skimmer draws with the ozone. I can safely say that I'll always keep ozone on my reef tanks.
