Issues with the Kore 5th

Issues with the Kore 5th

Hey guys

So I am wondering if anyone here is having the same issues with this doser as I have so far.

So I bought the doser a few months ago. The initial install went well, no issues with BT (both the built in and the usb one) and I had no problems messing around with it. However, since my tank was not fully running all I did is set it up as an ATO and I said to myself I will use it as a doser when the tank is up and running. I did connect to it a few times every now and then without any issues. But stopped doing this for a few weeks.

So a few weeks later I wanted to connect to the doser to start familiarizing myself with it and start dosing some calcium. And here is when problems started. Everytime I would connect to the doser it would say "attempting to connect to the doser...." and that's about it. The app will freeze and I couldnt go any further. During this period the doser was working (at least as an ATO).

After a quick response from their support service he told me to do a reset, so I did and the doser became responsive again. So I set it up and worked well for a few weeks, after a few weeks I noticed that my calcium levels were very low, much lower than it should be, and that for some reason, my other 2 containers (which only had RO water at that time) had also less fluid than they were supposed to have (there was no reason to have lost fluid as these two pumps where supposed to be off), when I connected to the doser again the same problem "attempting to connect..." and then nothing.

This time the reset didnt work for me, so Tomasz kindly asked me to buy another BT device, so I did, came back home with it and same issue.

Tomasz then connected remotely to it and after 30 minutes or so he asked me to try to reset it again, after a couple of attempts the reset worked and we had control of the doser once more.

So I configured the doser again to dose calcium (70 ml) and the ATO.

A few days later, while I was sleeping I woke up because I noticed that the doser was beeping a lot, when I went to check I realized what my calcium levels (in the container) were very low (I had 2200 ml and at that point I only had over 600 ml left) and when I checked the doser daily dose I noticed it was dosing ~670 ml per day?, although I have it set up to dose 70 ml (and thats what is set up in the pump settings). Anyway, aside from this (which is currently being looked by Tomasz pending an interaction from my side as it could be a calibration mistake from my part) I noticed that ALL my pumps were on again? that was very weird.

So I switched EVERYTHING off but the ATO, that was over 2 weeks ago and today, again, I noticed that the doser was making a lot of noise (beeping), and the display showed an ATO refill alarm, from what I can tell the pump is either broken or the doser is not activating it. However, when I tried to connect again the doser is once more un responsive!!!

Worse of all is that I cannot reset it as I recently had surgery and I can't make any physical efforts, but of course, not the ATO is not working, and I am going back to the hospital for 3 days WITHOUT a working ATO.

So my question is if anyone has have any similar issues? (pumps coming on, not being able to connect to the doser after a few days of not connecting to it). I am asking this because when I mentioned this to PS they said that they have never heard of this before and that it is just not possible for this to happen (I have been taking meds so it could be me lol) :)

I have no choice but to switch off the doser, I just can't trust it anymore.

I will try to set up my Apex to do the ATO part but dosing will have to be done manually until I get to the bottom of this. This is a problem since my wounds have not yet fully heal but I have little choice.

One thing though, Tomasz has been very good with me and very responsive but I just think I am going mad here... is like this doser has a life of it own!! lol

So...I cannot get the AWC to work at all.

I'm on a Mac using 1.5d (newest?) and have the checkbox for DC pumps selected. DC1 is calibrated and it works when I test it.

Xx:50 comes around and it never activates! I've waited days, I've reset it and I can't get it to run.

Doser is working and ATO is working and I know what the temperature in Celsius is...

Anyone have solutions? I've gotten nothing from tech support besides requesting a copy of the memory file which you can't get from a Mac. This is usually 2 days after my email.

Please help...

I've had the same problem with my dossier, randomly dosed all my alk one day and then the next day 1000ml of acro power. I have since unplugged the unit and will switch back to Bras 1.1 when I get corals back in the tank since all this destroyed my tank.

Hi Erik,
Please catch me directly at p.cybulski@pacific-sun.eu with copy of emails sent to support(and details regarding software and firmware version)
It should work properly like on Windows app(because firmware is the same for Win/Mac)

@bfishlpond78
Im sorry to hear that.
From technical point of view dozer can't change his setting by himself and dose anything randomly.
Please contact with our service@pacific-sun.eu directly - they will support you and try to diagnose reason of that whats happened.

Regards

Przemek

Kore 5th dosing station - experience/review

I hope this review will help people to recognize what kind of device is Kore 5th dosing station. Hopefully, it will be helpful. I just want to share my some thoughts and experience with Kore 5th (this is v.1). Yes, after more than a year of using and testing this dosing station, I like it. In this device I see a lot of innovation and good engineering work.

The most important to me was the ability to control and program this doser. I was so impressed how much we can have in the box for this price. There is no suction cups for the holders. Also, we have to remember to calibrate pumps from time to time (2-3 months, but to be safe more often).

Kore 5th is a completely wireless, 5 channel doser with optional integrated ATO (auto top off) and temp sensor. Control software allows users to not only connect to the doser wireless via bluetooth, but also set precise dosing schedules for any number of supplements or elements. Kore 5th gives users the ultimate control of dosing almost anything the reef may need.

The Kore 5th features:
- Five quiet and accuracy dosing pumps with adjustable flow,
- Three modes: Fast flow, moderate flow, and precise flow allow for single dose 0.01ml (one liquid drop - about 0.04ml),
- Single dose from 0.01ml to 6500ml,
- up to 144 doses/day(super smooth mode),
- Wireless controlled (for PC, Mac),
- Different tubing for fast flow (up to 80ml/min) and precise dosing (20ml/min precision flow rate),
- Ability to assign labels for each pump (for example: calcium, alk, trace elements, vodka, etc.),
- Alarm for low-level dosing fluid (and indicator of remaining fluid),
- Alarm to instruct user to replace peristaltic tubing,
- Precision pump calibration program (for 10ml and 50ml samples),
- Built-in ATO (automatic top-off) system with 300l/h, 2m head DC pump (adjustable speed) INCLUDED. The remote ATO/pump connects to the rear panel of the dosing unit,
- Two water level float sensors,
- Optical level sensor (in Regular/Pro version),
- Alarm for refill malfunction,
- Temperature sensor (0.1 degree accuracy) with audible alarm for high and low temperature (customizable),
- Blue back-lit LCD display (can be turned off/on),
- Battery back-up. Clock and the user settings are saved if power is interrupted,
- Single AC/DC power adapter,
- Uses high quality PharMed/Viton/Silicone tubing in each pump head with different ID diameter,
- Long motor life (Made in Japan). Quiet "œ"non-gearbox" operation,
- Spare parts are readily available,

What I got in the box:
1. 5 channel dosing station,
2. Optical water sensor,
3. Digital temperature sensor,
4. ATO DC pump (adjustable speed),
5. Acrylic tubing holder,
6. Precise silicone tubings,
7. Fast flow silicone tubings,
8. 10m connection silicone tube,
9. 2ml and 50ml cylinders for precise/fast calibration,
10. 1ml and 5ml syringes,
11. Two water level float sensors,
12. Additionally Pro version include PharMed BPT long life tubings (5pcs),

The benefits and what I like:
1. Five dosing pumps at once,
2. ATO,
3. Optical water sensor,
4. AWC option,
6. Solid, stainless steel housing, corrosion resistant.
7. Very nice, modern look,
8. Mac and Windows software,
9. Custom made accessories including the holders and stands,
10. Great customer support,
11. Quiet operation,

What should be change and how to make Kore 5th even better:
- Power supply. Phone power supply is ok and is working, but maybe stand alone will be better and safe.
- I have swapped with stand alone one and I have now even longer power cord,
- Some solution to connect to this device through WiFi and control not only doser but also PS lamp,

Also, I want to mention that Magnetic Stirrer is a great addition to the Kore 5th dosing station.
Built in magnetic motors stir liquids before the dose so you don't need to shake them anymore.
Magnetic Stirrer set include:
- 5 stirrer bars
- connection cable

As we know, it's the most advanced and well thought out dosers available on the market since day one and has a lot of potential.
I have feeling that PS is making standards in this hobby.
It's an "all in one" doser which is truly "plug n play" out of the box with some great programming and control.
Evan some competitive companies are trying to copy this device. Pacific Sun innovates and creates, while others are copying.
I'm pretty much sure we can expect more and more from PS.
Keep going and good luck.

I am also a happy user and have to say that I never upgraded to the new version. I am still in 1.4g.

Following is what I will like to be added:
1. If using optic as main ATO I will like to have the floats as backup in case the optic fails.
2. WIFI with email and message notifications if it detects that have dosed too much.
3. Program a dosing pump to dose between certain hours. In my case I dose use Kalk thru ATO and I will like to not use ATO during peek hours so my PH doesn't get so high.
4. That when I do a change in settings the program advise me with a saved configuration. I know that it says saved but only on the dose settings, in the other menus it don't advise.
5. Add more ML to the container settings.

Hope this gets evaluated by Pacific Sun / Prezmek in order to improve this equipment.

Agreed that in theory the doser should not dose outside of its set parameters. I have no reason to say it did otherwise. Unfortunately it did, twice. I've said it before, but I think the cause is that rollers in the heads do not fully pinch off the lines and caused a siphon to happen. Taking apart the dosing heads I found that the rollers seemed of a lesser quality than I would have expected for this expensive of a unit. Have looked at the $100 units with the same quality unfortunately. The programming for calibrating dosing is far more complicated than it should be, also very unresponsive when you hit the stop button.

This is why check valves and not having your setup to where it can syphon chemicals in is probably a good idea with any doser. I'm not defending them either. The pumps are the same quality as the cheap doser units it just has more functionality. I would've happily paid another couple of hundred dollars if the pumps were similar to the atp 4 roller pumps. The friction drive pumps just are not the best. But I have switched to 3mm od 1.5mm id tygon tubing and it is doing much better.

10. 1ml and 5ml syringes,

Awesome review!!!!! I to have had my 5th kore Doser Pro since its release and love it!!!! Works flawlessly! I love mine so much that I bought another one just in case something goes wrong with the one I am using, but as of yet I've had no issues with this product. Excellent quality product at a fantastic price!!

I'm still trying to grasp how a check valve would work on a dosing setup. Flow goes one way into a tank from the doser, if you add a check valve. All it would do is stop the liquid from going back up the tube to the doser. If you put it the other way around the valve wouldn't allow the liquid to be dosed in the tank. I was under the impression that check valves stopped flow going backwards to the source.

I agree with the calibrating steps BUT not with the siphon. The only way you coudl create a siphon is if your dosing containers are higher then the doser or you dont have an air brake at the end of the line. This isue has been reported with a multitude of dosers as many dont have precise heads and can go into a siphon if the container is higher or at equal level. GHL and DOS for instance have both had these issues and there are a few threads on here discussing them.

This is why it is ALWAYS recommended regardless of doser for the unit to be above the containers holding the dosing liquid AND for the end of the lines to be above the water line of the sump.

Dosing containers are directly underneath the unit and the lines are out of the water.

I've never had this issue with the BRS dosers. And it was exactly the same setup.

I wouldn't lube with how these pumps are driven (friction on the motor shaft to the rollers) I bought 25 feet of 1.5mm Id 3mm OD Tygon tubing from McMastercarr and haven't had any issues since then. Ill report back with what model Tygon tubing it is

Tygon S3 2x4 mm. Run the pumps on medium, then recalibrate. That has given me the best results
