Leighton, if you can find it, there is a shop in Chesterfield that sells it, Solid Gold rocks. All natural, and chock full of good for you stuff.

Try it and you will not be sorry

baxterdawg feeds and recommends Purina Pro Plan.

I am feeding Innova which is an exceptional dog food as well. There are several good choices available on the market today.

Solid Gold all the way - no menadione, no preservatives, no byproducts, no saturated fats, USDA choice meats, brown rice (not corn or stripped brewers rice), etc etc

I formerly fed Purina Pro Plan Selects, but after doing my research I realized what a mistake that was; plus I didn't want to support a company that makes a terrible food like Dog Chow

Best of luck, the search for a good dog food is not easy

I recently switched Cherokee to Purina Pro Plan and her coat is better and she has more energy now and her joints seem to be feeling better.

Petco sells solid gold dog and cat food, very good food and has not been on the recall as far as I know. Regular Royal Canin foods have not been on any of the recalls as well. There is a new Petco in Edwardsville that just opened a week ago. In case any people on the IL side are looking for Solid Gold. Its very nice, and very different from the Petco in Fairview Heights and Alton. I recommend checking it out. Furthermore the Grand opening is May 5th.

Considering he has a PhD in canine nutrition, that is saying a lot, IMO.

thanks for the replies guys

I currently have my two adults on science diet original, but I just got a new puppy and its eating eukanuba (same as at breeder) so when time comes to change I was just wondering

Ive never had dogs before, so I dont know if this is a newb question or not, but am I supposed to feed them the same exact food everytime, their whole lives?

or should I change it up?

and if I change it up, shoudl I stay within the same brand, i.e. SD original to SD lamb/rice, etc?

Different people say different things about sticking with the same brand, I say once you have found a good (healthy) food stick with it. For most brands you can switch flavors, which bring me to your second question. If you are switching foods, do so incrementally over maybe two weeks (90/10, 80/20, etc etc). If you are switching between flavors I might be inclined to do the same just to make the switch as comfortable as possible for the dog. Adding cooked brown rice during the switch can also ease the transition. Just my two cents - best.

I swear by Solid Gold 100%. My dog has so many food allergies that I went to an all raw meat diet for two years. I had tried several brands of premium, all-natural foods but never had any luck. The raw diet helped, but I felt that he wasn't getting all that he needed based on what organ meats I could get locally.

I put him on Solid Gold Holistique and add my own ground beef and it has worked wonders on him. I decided to try Solid Gold on him because I have two cats (brother and sister) who both have IBS and the Katz-N-Flocken is the only thing that they can eat without vomiting. Truly a great food brand IMO.
