My old college tank from 2001.
Getting rid of that tank was one of the stupidest things ive ever done. :mad2:

That was a 400W Iwasaki 6500K and 4X110W URI VHO actinics, over a 40 breeder. It was nice having free electricity in the dorm :) I think we had over 2kW of light running in the room.

I have some side shots somewhere, I'll post them soon. As you can see from the photo though, I never cleaned my glass, so good front shots are few and far between.

Tim-check out the blue tip pink mille in back, behind the big pink and yellow. That was the nicest millepora I have ever seen to this day. Even the tentacles were bright pink. The guy I got it from still has a tank running in Chicago, I'll see if he still has it next time I'm in IL.

I don't even remember all of the corals I had in that tank. There was over 100 different sps alone. All you can really see in the photos are the frags I started the tank with at the beginning...they have close to 2 years of growth on the biggest ones, minus a few fraggings.

Not really any algae problems. Had quite a bit of Dictyota, but it wasnt too bad to control, and I don't think that was related to the bulb.

With 6500K Iwasakis you will have insane growth. Nothing else compares for PAR. They were popular back in 1999-2001, but it seems like everyone has gone to superblue 20ks now. The colors you get with 6500k+actinic are just as good IMO.

Very nice! I showed your tank to my friend and he about spit his pop out. Couldn't believe the growth and what all you had in the 40g. He was extremely impressed.

I do plan on actinics over my frag vat so maybe the 6500k is an idea. I'll have to PM you with specifics later on if that is ok with you?

Sure CoralCaps, anybody is welcome to hit me with questions.

This time around I'm using 10k DE Ushios, mainly because I'm not growing any acros, all Montipora. The montipora did get a bit washed out under the 6500k, particularly the greens. Acropora on the other hand just got brighter and brighter with more light.

It wasn't free-- someone paid for it ;) (finally the reason tuition has increased so much over the years)

All because of you Tim...

BTW - All my stuff is looking good!

If only I could take good pics...
