what do u guys think....does it really reflect off more light if so ill do it ..ive heard of krylon fusion i think its called ...my halides 3x175 are in the mail along with 2x160vhos... should get here by the end of this week ..then i can hopefully buy some frags off of u guys

It depends on if you have an open replector where light would escape or if you have more direct reflector for the metal halides. It really is up to you, I personally would paint it white.

I dont really know about that, but theoretically that does make sense, So I would do it. As a matter of fact when I upgrade I will pain the interior white. My ony question would be, do you use oil base paint or water based?? lol!!

Yes, basically a white surface reflects more of the light spectrum than any other colored surface which would absorb part of the spectrum.
Of course it'll never be comparable to a true reflector which not only reflects more light, but is also shaped to direct the rays downward into the tank instead of being randomly scattered and diffused before reaching the tank.

That being said, I've got an old canopy that was painted white before I bought it.
After several years over saltwater the paint is starting to flake off in large pieces everytime the canopy is bumped or opened.

I'm planning on restoring it soon, and that got me thinking about how to protect the paint better.
In addition to a good quality oil or enamel I'm thinking about finishing it with several coats of a high-gloss clear polyurethane.
Does anyone have any personal experience or wisdom to share with trying different coatings and finishes on their hoods?

I've also noticed that there are a couple of highly reflective "crome" type metallic finishes available in sprays as well.
Has anyone tried using one of these, and if so, what was the result?

I have tried the "chrome" paints before and think plain old white glossy would probably reflect more.

What I think i am going to try next time around is the metal tape. I got the idea while installing LEDS on my motorcycle underneath the gas tank. For that application I bought the "Chrome" tape. That stuff is kinda of expensive so I decide to try the 3m metal tape, its a little less reflective, but is more reflective, IMO, than brushed aluminum.

BTW, I painted my hood white, not sure if it helps, but I can tell you my eyes hurt if I open the canopy doors and look at it. I guess they dont hurt that bad, but you get my drift. I did not use Krylon, I used a plain old latex enamel.

i think i would just paint it white with no other coating, since it will probably aborb some light. figure it would take maybe a couple years for the paint to flake, i would then just paint it again.

im not sure but id be worried about the polyurethane start cracking and turning yellow with the heat and light.
