Pairing yasha gobies

I have had a male(?) yasha goby with a pair of Randall's Pistol shrimp in my 36 gallon bow front reef for a bit over a month now. I am considering adding a female.

I've done some digging and believe my current fish to be a male and thinking I'm able to differentiate the genders (male with a brownish lining on the pectoral fin. Fins also tend to be more yellow).

Has anyone successfully paired these fish?

A little update. Yesterday, I bought a female and added her to the tank.

They actually encountered each other last night shortly before the moon lights kicked on. The male was very territorial at first but the female persisted. She nudged her way into the burrow.

At work now so can't observe how they are getting along. But, they shared a den last night.

That's pretty cool. I was thinking about doing a pair in my little 40. How do you tell sex?

One of them (males I recall) have a black spot on their ventral fins.

That is correct. The males have a brownish/blackish line near the following edge of the ventral fin. Females do not.

Excited to get home from work tonight and see what they are up to. I haven't had the chance to peek since they dove into the den with the two shrimp 2 days ago.

UPDATE! I got home from work and started stalking the gobies. The male came out per the usual and began his vigil for the happy pistol couple. This made me nervous as the female is significantly smaller than the male and she was MIA!

Well, after a bit of close watching, the female poked her head out of the opposite entrance of the burrow.


The male is on the left, female barely poking out to the right. She is still very timid it seems.

Day 4:


It would appear that the bonding process is coming along swimmingly.

Off work tomorrow, hopefully I'll be able to snag a pic with all four out and about.

I have a Yasha Goby, Yellow Watchmen, and a candy pistol shrimp.

I've got a B&W ocelaris clown, a snowflake ocelaris, flame angel, a midas blenny, and these little beauties! Along with a lot of inverts lol

Think the yasha pair have really taken the spotlight as my favorites, though!

How do your yasha and ywg get along? When I had a high fin and ywg the ywg didn't toleeate him at all.
