I'm picking up this Magnifica anemone later this week:

The current owner says it has been this color since it was 3 inches wide(12 now),they've had it 12 years and it has split multiple times. Has anyone ever seen this pale of a healthy Magnifica before?

Its is bleached. What is the history on it?

Where did it come from and how long has it been like this?

That anemone is bleached. He was not like that for 12 years. In the wild under extremely bright light and low nutrients anemone can look almost bleached but not in captivity. Of course under stressed with hot weather in the wild can bleached corals and anemones

He seem well. Won't be a problem but just know that he is bleached and will not stray that color

I would not pass on it, a healthy/non bacterial infection mag is kinda hard to come by, and if you squirt mysis towards it a couple times a week it will help regain health and color, and I'd bet it looks even better when colored up.

I'm not certain I have been told the whole story on this anemone after doing some research on the poster on another forum. It appears the anemone is in a tank that was set up May 2016, and the tank "crashed" in July 2016, wiping out almost everything. They never mentioned anything about having an anemone until just recently. Maybe it was in another system I guess, but they seem to be alluding to this being their only tank.

while i do not believe the "...split multiple times and has always been bleached" yarn, it looks healthy otherwise from this single photo. id imagine it will recover very quickly and easily in a proper aquarium.

After speaking with the current owner, I am not comfortable getting it. They are asking a premium price, and this anemone is not in ideal health. I agree that it may be brought to good health, but not at the asking price they want.

If I saw that at an LFS for $50-60 I'd grab it in a heart beat, coming from a reefers tank established/no bacterial infection does command a little more, though usually that means not bleached.

The story sounds a little shaky. Mags rarely come in 3 in wide and "splitting multiple times" is a little suspect as well especially when its "always been that color". I think you are right to pass on this one.

Just curious, what was the price? Too bad you're not grabbing it. It would be interesting to see the recovery progression and how it turns out in the end. Mags are tough to come by near me. I think anything $100 or less would be reasonable.
Honestly, if you order one from a fish store or online, by the time you pay for cipro and the 70gal of salt water at a minimum that you'll need to treat them, it might be worth it to pay a premium for this one. And even after the cipro, saltwater, and time, a newly imported one still has a decent chance not to survive. If it were me, I'd still grab that one and buy it with the rock it's on so there is no chance of foot damage (assuming this is a local sale).

Yea. That's a bit much with it being bleached. I'd try to make an offer a bit lower. For me though getting one without having to deal with treating it would probably make me even pay that. I really hate doing the treatment, especially when I've only been 50% at saving the gigs I have attempted to save.

I'm guessing this is a recently purchased item. They advised me it is so white because it is so large in the picture(inflated), but it changes colors regularly to a deeper pink/purple and you can see its underside, which is more purple. I think I'm going to have to treat it anyway, as I'm pretty sure they were describing to me the anemone constantly deflating and re-inflating, which is obviously a very bad sign. In the picture, it looks very nicely inflated though. On top of that, this person is 200km's from me, so its a long trip for what is sounding like an unhealthy anemone.
