PAR Meter

Who here has the PAR meter that the club has? I asked, and Rhett doesn't have it.

There should be some sort of check out and check in system for equipment. If you don't return it, you buy it.

I would really like to find out what my lights are putting out.

Thanks in advance.

If you have used the par meter in the last 18 months, Please check your fish equipment spare parts bin/ storage area to see if you might have parked it there and forgot about it. The small footprint of the parmeter means it could be over looked unless you are specifically looking for it.

EVERYONE!!!!! Please check your storage area's. Thanks

Norman

This is one piece of equipment that Im not sure where it is. I have been good about keeping up with things but this is a piece of equipment that got swapped around quick between people and Im not sure who has it. I'll check around more and see if I can find out who has it.

I've been asking around for the parmeter for months. If we find It put me on the list for use of it.thanks

I know. Kind of silly it takes this long to stir up interest in getting it found, if you ask me.

TitansFan had it last I heard.

Thanks for the heads up Brandon.

Maybe someone can contact him and retrieve it.

I don't even know what else is available for borrow. There doesn't seem to be any definite list.

Disorganized checkout procedures too, if you ask me, considering the replacement price of said Par Meter.

Items should be used and returned promptly, and if they're going to be given to another person in the same geographic area for convenience, everyone should agree and post who has what. The next receiving party should post in agreement on the forum they're taking the item so there is a paper trail and situations like this won't be a problem.

I have tried to be understanding about the equipment and I see where its got me. What happens is I give it to someone and they give it to someone. Sometimes people tell me and sometimes they dont and I call and they say I gave it to so and so etc. Ive had this happen different times with different people. I could say when your done with it bring it to me and I will give it to the next person in person and they can drive to Springhill to get it but I would rather not have this happen. If you have a piece of equipment make sure you call me and tell me who your giving it to and their contact information if everyone would do this than items will be easier to keep up with. If not then each person that uses a piece of equipment can pick it up and bring it back to Springhill. Im not being a jerk here and if you know me than you know how I am I just dont want heat brought onto me because a piece of equipment cant be found.

Also Ive learned its better to bite my tongue at times than make myself look bad over a moments bad choice of words. If you need to tell me something that makes me look bad just send it to me in a PM, call me on the phone or just come to my house.

Frankly, I wasn't trying to make anyone look bad, just throwing ideas out there that could possibly make the process more organized and benefit everyone. I've seen questions regarding the par meter go on for several months now. Nobody seems to have it still, so I started a thread to see if it could be found. I simply wanted to use it before my membership expires, and it appears that may not happen. I can be very blunt at times, and I am sorry if my statements may have offended you, but we're not talking about a $10 drill bit. By all means, pass that to the next person. A higher dollar piece of equipment, IMHO, should be returned.

I'm not pointing fingers at anybody other than the person who did not return the item - and suggesting another way to check out items in the future. It is what it is.

I just want to test my lights.

Well Ive done the best I can at keeping up with these items and I would have a better idea if everyone had let me know who they gave it to and when. Zach if your werent directing it towards me dont worry about I just dont like someone calling me out on the carpet when Im already doing to the best I can with no one elses help.

ok ok boys time to play nice,im sure itll turn up,as far as me i dont even know what a par meter looks like but would be nice to borrow, maybe we all need to share some beers and sing xmas tunes lol...i think though ill sit my butt in da corner and shut up lol

Mario, Zach and I are big boys and neither one of us is going to get upset about this. I know where he's coming from and he knows where Im coming from. We both know each other can take it. A PAR meter measures the pnetration of the light into your aquarium. Zach Im not upset at you and the item should already have been back to me your right. I have a lead Im working on.

Its definitely a delicate balance with checkouts.

I was secretary (Rhett's position) for a year and never even saw the PAR meter! haha

Hence why I never ran for a office and it gets harder to find folks willing to put forth the efforts it takes to be in a officer position ;). Passing pricy equipment around is totally fine when your club is very small and everyone knows everyone but when the club getts as big as MTRC has and folks do not really know each other any more other than a screen name a more organized check out system should be put in place. I am sure the fine sitting BOD will address this issue and have a better plan of action for the equipment check out procedure and the new MTRC site is a great place to have this new check out system for all to see by logging in where it goes on a dedicated thread.

I think no one was laying blame on Rhett but just wonderng where it may be. In the official check out system the last one who checked it out should be financially responciable if they choose to lend it to a buddy who lends it to a buddy who then moves away and its lost forever. It should be worded that by checking out a peice of club equipment by placing you name on the official thread as getting it you are in fact liable for its safty and well being in your hands and responciable for either returning it to the secritary personally or logging in on the "official equipment list" you have indeed passed it to the next in line and they in turn need to log in they have recieved the equipment. This should be a very doable thing since we now have the other site we can have a dedicated forum for equipment check outs.

Naturally this is just my 02 cents worth and I personally don't want to head this up
Good luck finding it!!

Hey angela- I like that Idea, If you check it out then you are responsible for replacement if it is lost or broken........but what if it breaks while you have it because it is old.....or was improperly used before you got it and it didnt work from the get go or was already damaged in some way. I like the idea but mabe we can have a penalty for having the item checked out from rhett for more than 2 weeks or something like that, and use the fines to go for more/replacement club equipment? I think the only way he will actually be able to keep tabs is if people are forced to return it to him in person. I'd drive to springhill if someone was gonna save me a ton of money by not having to buy something myself, but thats just me and I live in the boro, may be different for those further north.

nightfire- good thought! Personally with club dues as low as they are Id be willing to put in some cash in some kind of collection to buy club items for all to use once we get the checkout procedures followed better.

just my .02

Speaking from talking about this with last years board, the problem is there's not really any way to enforce fines or anything else like that in the club. Its kind of like "pay the PAR meter fines or else!" "Or else what?" "Or else you... uh... ummm... no soup for you!"

Know what I mean? :)

First we should probably just try to keep up with it. And Rhett, speaking from your position that is by all means not a knock on you. I tried starting a PAR meter thread to keep up with it, but that failed miserably, thus we're not sure where its at now. Haha!

Brandon

It does not have to be complicated. Just kept track of. Perhaps using our site to check out equipment. A place where anyone can look who last had it checked out, and request checkout.

There is a forum thread on our club site specifically for requesting gear. Single place AND history is available.

good call Brandon, good call Andy.....all this talk about the par meter kinda makes me wanna check my par too........anyone know where it is...hehehahahehahehahe j/k..but really i kinda do want to use it now.
