Parameter Test KIT

I've never used Red Sea test kits. 'Looks like it has a lot of stuff.

Only occasionally, and during the nitrogen cycle, you need to test for Ammonia, Nitrite, and Nitrate.

More frequently, you need to test Calcium, Alkalinity, pH, and Salinity. I use Aquarium Pharmaceuticals for Ca and Alk, a PinPoint pH monitor for pH, and a Captive Purity refractometer for salinity (although floating glass hydrometers are accurate as well).

Salifert makes very good test kits, although they're a little pricey. Regardless, for pH, the color chart tests are poor - best bet is a monitor.

You may want to consider a Magnesium test. I only test in response to Calcium issues (trouble rainsing/maintaining) and to know how to dose saltwater used for changes).

Posphate (PO4) is a good-to-have test, but is also used more rarely.

I've used it before, it's total crap. Salifert is a way better option. You get what you pay for in this hobby. ;) The only test I don't use Salifert for is pH. I use a monitor for that.

Isn't there a calculation to determine what the Magnesium is from the Calcium and GH? I thought that I saw that somewhere...

So it seems that the PH is the only thing that i am going to need to spend the extra cash on PH Monitor. Also I will look at the Salifert tests. Since I should be filling my tank up shortly.

Where is everyone getting these pH monitors?

They're availible at alot of the various marine supply shops, and ebay also has people selling them.

Sure, but hope you like math--Magnesium by Calculation
