Thats an awesome forum!!! We should have something like that for FMAS.:eek1:

We do, you are writing on it!
Ours is just a little better cause it is 100% free of charge and maintenance and also is read worldwide and has helped us expand our club to were we are now.

I am planning on going to this event, let me know if anyone wants to share the ride, I understand that they are going to have some real exotic, rare & expensive corals and fishes on the raffle.
I will be the designated driver since I don't drink.

I like having our own, personally, since we are 100% in charge of our site. We don't have to worry about whether a post is commercial or not and we have our own posting rules.

Sucks when you have to be the bad guy and ban someone, though (except when they really screw up and act like a jerk...then it's kinda fun!)

Like anything reef-related, there are pros and cons to both.

I'm really looking forward to seeing a bunch of you there! No doubt it will be a great time!!!

Oh, but you do!
I think this is contradicting, if you have your own rules, then, you do have to worry about enforcing them, and if you have to be banning people because they are jerks, then, it is a drag for who ever needs to be playing the role of police.
I assume you have commercial sponsor that will probably be upset if you allow Joe, Mary or any other competitors products and services to be offer freely to the members, otherwise why should they be sponsors if anyone could announce for free?
Personally I think your club had a lot more exposure when your forum was on RC, I use to visit it daily and met most of you on that time.

the only thing that i saw on the sponsor page was LFS, that where advertising new shipments they received. which i personally think is real cool.

Can we setup a sticky here on RC that has announcements when LFS get new shipments.

I will think that will be a commercial posting therefore not allowed here on RC, However, I think we do a good job at announcing our own local findings.

Rogger, you know what I mean about commercial posts...Manny having been a classic example. I prefer being able to make and enforce our own rules.

And, as I mentioned, it's not so bad having to ban someone when they are being a total jerk, and you have to really screw up to banned from our site (like the guy who was trying to sell illegally undersized fish he caught offshore).

And we have very good relationships with our sponsors...they don't get caught up with petty stuff like that. I make sure they are all treated fairly, which isn't difficult at all, and it's just not a problem.

Really, Rogger...we have already debated this ad nauseum! There are pros and cons to each, and I think that having our own site serves our club better. Having a RC site apparently serves FMAS better.

Can we get back on to the original topic now?

Torry, You are right, IMO it is a matter of what serves your club best also. Lets continue on with the event. I will be there and sounds like Melving is coming for the ride, I will be forwarding Mels special diet needs later on. :D

I might be interested in goiing...is this just the pbmas club event or something special put on by a store up there? I'll ask you about it tomorrow rogger.
