Peacock Paradise Buildup!

Thanks guys! Ill make sure I post lots of pics when I get him. Hope the fedex office isn't too busy! t-minus 3.5 hours

Haha just got home. And.....he's alive! He's acclimating right now but definitely moving a lot. Here's some preview pics:

The dots are some food I put in there because I wasn't sure if he was alive or not at first.

Just put him in. The first thing he did was take a nice wack on the front pane of glass, that was kind of unnerving. Other than that hes moving around a lot

Oh yeah, the way I've been able to find out if they are male or female is a shrimp on a stick. They will latch on to it and you can pull them over to the glass to, um, take a look...

Haha Ill keep that in mind. Im leaving him alone right now so he doesn't get stressed out. He's just kinda standing in the corner though wheres there's no LR. He keeps peeking his head out at me too lol

Yeah, not recommending you do that now, just some info for later. Mine took a few days before it even thought about digging a burrow and then it went nuts building in one day.

Yay! Always exciting!

For me i'd leave the actinics on for near to a week or ether till s/he starts being active. When i got Helena she stay in her tube for like a week and i waited till she started working on her burrow. Once she got a decent home going then i turned on normal lighting. However, that was just me :)

Since you have some things in your tank with some lighting needs I would go maybe three days as a good middle ground.

I've done my tank with no lights for about a week while trying to get rid of some cyano, didn't see any ill effects, other than the goby/pistol did major redecorating. I'd agree, play it by ear but be sure he's okay before flipping on the normal lights, but most things can go longer than we give them credit for without full light.

So he looks ok right? I don't see any scarring or shell rot that I can see. What do you guys think?

Here's some update pics, still lookin for a mantis...
