Has anyone ever gone snorkeling on the Jetti's at the inlet that goes to Peanut island? I'm not sure of the Inlet name, but heard you can find some awesome stuff along the Jetti's there. Just can't tell from maps how you would get to the Jetti's without a boat.
lol, I'm going to that area on friday. Might stop by peanut island, but you can't collect there. We are going to the Blue Heron bridge close to there. I was told the Jetty at the inlet there was some awesome things, but can't figure out how to get to it!!! argh. lol
Peanut Island is a refuge. No collecting there. Just looking, but from what I hear very well worth it.
If you look at google maps, the inlet that leads to peanut island has a nice jetty on the south side of the inlet. Supposebly that is an awesome jetty to snorkel. Just can't seem to figure out how to get to it.
Its been years since I lived down there but if you take 95 to okeechobee blvd (hwy 704 on the map) it heads over to a1a. a1a north kinda turns into n county, which then turns into ocean. at the end of ocean there used to be some areas you could park. Im not sure they where legal parking lots and they very well may have houses on them by now since most of that area is high dollar land and super ritzy folks, but its worth a shot at least. The north side of that jetty will be easier to get to from blue heron. Also Jupiter inlet used to have some good fishing, there is parking right there on the south side, see the bottom link for that.
Have fun, my wife and I will be heading down there this weekend to to visit my family, who knows we may end up beachside to, my dad lives in Lake worth, Ill ask him if he has any good places to go.
Originally posted by loosbrew as mentioned before... you take a ferry to the island. there is no access via road. or you can rent a kayak... thats how we did it...
Thanks for the input regarding peanut island, I wasn't trying to find out how to access the island, I was inquiring on how to get to the south jetty. From scouring some websites last night, they say the north jetty is pretty decent to snorkel anyways. Have to watch out for the black tips they say tho...
Firefighter.....That would be awesome! It looks like the south Jetty is completely blocked by private houses now. I guess if we do go beach side we will check out the north jetty. Just based on pictures, it appeared you would have a awesome dive on the south side. I found a site that had pictures someone took while snorkeling the north jetty and it was pretty impressive looking. Tho I can not find the site now...hate when that happens.
well the south east side of peanut island has an artificial reef a few feet off shore. lots of fish and emerging corals etc... im not too sure about the jetties you mention? I know youre not alowed to snorkel too far south as thats wher ethe boats rush in and out..
The jetti's are to the east of peanut island beach side of the inlet. The Jetti's are not a refuge and not as pretty as peanut island, but you are allowed to collect there.
Sytanek,
Talked to my dad, the spot we used to park is now a house, didnt know of any othere good spots for getting to the south end. You may want to check with these guys those, there based in palm beach, one of them may have a good idea. good luck on your trip http://www.pbmas.org/chatboard/news.php
