Pectinia..how much would you pay for this?

It depends, those are maricultured bases on them with tags, meaning that these are about to massively flood the hobby since they're being grown by exporters, so they're going to be pretty cheap real soon. It looks like those are already being exported, which means they're going to saturate the market in no time. Pay whatever you want for it now, they'll be $20 a frag in 6-8 months.

Where do you buy your frags at? Id really like to get my hand's on some $20 chalice and rainbow acan frags.

Nice catch there was a guy at CoralCon in Orlando said he would frag an inch long piece for like 200$

pectinia's are not SPS not even close. They are an LPS coral and should be treated as such. Lower light and flow

I tend to agree with you. It has no characteristics of an sps i can see...looking on different websites i see them listed as sps and other lps...im guessing the plating types may be more sps?

Also to add..i spent a week as a guest at a Coral research lab in key largo once...the scientists had no idea what i was talking about when i said lps or sps...so im guessing its not really that important..or is just a coined name from the hobby? Not sure

That's not even close to what I said. If you see rainbow chalice or acan colonies, especially several in one picture, on maricultured coral plugs with tags, then that means a facility in either Bali or Indonesia is mariculturing them on a large scale and you'll see $20 frags within a year.

SPS and LPS are non-scientific terms. They just refer to the polyp size (small polyp stony/scleractinian or large polyp stony/scleractinian). Large and small are not quantified - it is up to the judgement of the individual. Pectinia coral fit the bill for LPS; their polyps are much larger than that of an Acropora or a Montipora.

Plus, Pectinia is in the same family (Family Pectiniidae) as chalice corals (Genus Echinophyllia). Do you consider chalice corals to be SPS as well? Most SPS reside in the Family Acroporaidae.

Call it what you want, but I'd still place it in lower light, lower flow until it is acclimated for higher light and/or higher flow.

Absolutely agree, just seems most classify as SPS. Never quite understood why as clearly it presents as an LPS. also agree with moderate flow and lighting as I have seen very negative reaction to high flow.

They have been mariculturing Chalice corals for at least the last two years, yet I dont see $20 frags.

If betting were allowed on reefcentral Id bet you 1K your wrong one year from today.
