Dan,
Looks very nice! I love the open look! I agree with you in not rushing into buying show piece corals I have lost one very nice show piece coral because I rushed and my tank is still to new!:( I think it looks great!

Take care

thanks shawna.

Quite a bit has happened this past week.

A. picked up a new acro, and a few zoos.

so far its looking good.

B. I got rid of the halide. wasnt happy about its color. I swapped it for t5s.

lastly, an extra. The algae is quickly getting decimated by trochus snails. this is all the algae left

thanks :). It's 6 bulbs... a lot of giesemann bulbs. Although its a Nova Extreme Pro... and they arent the best fixtures out there, I hope it will perform just fine over a 12 inch tank.

Looking good Dan. Your tanks are inspirational.

I hope your T5 fixture is enough to keep the Acros colored up. I'd bet if you tested the par of the halide vs the T5 fixture, you'd be surprised how much less light your getting.

Dan,
Ive had my nova extreme pro for almost 2 years now and I love it! someone here did a par test on these fixtures and that's what made me lean tward the pro (wish I could find the thread :) anyhow your tank is just flawless I love it, "you are such a perfectionist!":)
Im going to come down and mess up your sand hahahaha jk Looks great! keep pics coming!

Thanks Randy! Overall, I guess just didn't like the look of the halide. The shimmer was nice, but i found the dark shadows and the fact that the light coverage wasnt even unappealing at best. I was keeping SPS for a few months under minimal t5 light (with giesemann bulbs) in the old 18g. If the Acros do lose color, I will either lower the t5, or swap some bulbs (or check water params). The color of the LPS and zoas under t5 however, far outweighed the color of the SPS under halides in my eyes. (everyone likes something different) :) If you see this, What t5 bulb combo are you running over the LPS dominated 120g?

Thanks Shawna. Funny you mention messing the sandbed up :) I have a conch that does that every day lol.

Right now I have a UV 454 in front, Giesemann Actinic +, UV AquaSun, and Current 460nm in back. Basically 3 blue bulbs and one yellow bulb.

Thanks for the info Randy. I might just swap 2-3 of the giesemanns for some UVL bulbs. (i find my tank running with all giesemanns looks a bit like a sterile hospital. . . wow its still early for me.

For what its worth, I think I am going to phase away from the SPS right now (i'll keep my three favorite ones) and shift more toward the look of this tank. (coral wise).

I also added some bangaii cardinals. very neat little fish :)

everytime i look at this...i correlate it too a fine piece of jewelry....the one's you see in the locked glass case that you can't possibly afford? Yeah, like that. Beautiful.

I like the minimalist style, and also like the breeder "footprint", but what is evaporation like on that thing?! Oh yeah - +1 on the T-5's...

omg...just saw the cardinal pic...and i made a little gasp sound...this image is going down to my studio...i want to paint this....
