People with multiple angels please help!

3 valmingi, 2 purple, 2 red sea sailfin and a palani tang. Some fairy wrasses, some pj cardinals, a pair of saddleback clowns (not very big), a few green chromis, a couple cleaner wrasses...I dunno....a bunch. It's a good crew.

Ok I have a question about your majestic. When I first got my majestic it was a beautifull sun burst orange and blue, now after a month in QT it has turned yellow. Is this because lack of somthing in its diet, or did the copper hurt the angel??

Anther question, how does your regal and majestic get along?? And how much hardier is your RS regal, than the indo reagal??

I know youve already got this, but BEAUTIFUL AQUARIUM!!! I cant wait to get a bigger tank so I can get more fish, .

My personal opinion? I don't copper fish. I think that copper is pretty damn toxic. I give all my fish a good paraguard dip prior to introduction. Drip line acclimation. And then I have this relatively large fish isolator thing I put in the tank. This accomplishes several things--one it gets them into the optimal environment IMO--the tank. Two it allows them to get used to the other fish and the other fish to get used to them, but they can't actually come into contact/beat on one another. They can see each other but can't touch. They "give up" trying to beat on one another. Three if the fish shows any signs of disease I can yank it out of the tank really easy. I run ozone and a uv when I'm feeling paranoid--I must admit I'm relatively laissez faire in terms of disease. I feel that a healthy tank and strong fish win out.
I think that indian ocean/red sea regals are pretty easy, whereas pacific are pretty much doomed. My regal and navarchus/majestic ignore each other.
I feed prime reef flake and spectrum pellets as the staple with intermitent feedings of mysis, gamma shrimp, chopped mussels, and macroalgae etc...

Sounds about like what I feed, so hopfully the majestic will color back up in a month or so. Thanks for the feedback!! I like your fish trap idea.

I QT everything. I have dipped fish and add them into the display tank. Then caused a problem later down the line when the fish carried in a disease. I had an ick/velvet problem in my tank that killed a few fish before I could get them in QT. Now I have my tank fishless for 6-8 weeks. I am QTing every new fish I get, you never know with lfs.
The fish trap idea, you could just use some eggcrate as well. I was thinking about doing that with my emperor against my gray.
As far as disease entering the tank, what if you didn't use RO water? Could there be ick or velvet etc in that? I just add things to tap water and mix up salt, I don't have the money for an RO unit. Could disease be possibly entering in from doing water changes or top offs?
Scout, sorry to hear about your flame. What do you think caused it? Not the male? I really want to try a pair of flames in my tank someday. Are you going to try and get another? Everytime I see flames, they are always the same size though.

Just did a water check on my QT tank. Nitrite and Nitrate is high, what do you do to get rid of that? In a QT tank? Water change? I am going to do a 5-10g water change now before work, then I will come back and check later tonight when I get home. Any suggestions though? All fish are fine and eating, I did notice two little white spots on my emperors tail, look like maybe a fungus. Suggestions with that? Copper is in the tank. Pimafix? I thought I was going to be worried about ammonia, but it's zero, even with feeding three pigs!

I would just do a water change and cut back on the food. They can really do with less food than you think they can. They will be fine.

Also I would not use Pimafix unless you had to. My experience is that it can really screw up your water when it is less then perfect. Be careful of any additives in a QT situation.

That's sorta in a nutshell the problem w QT setups. Often relatively.....half assed--how much time do you have? How are you gonna setup an optimal environment but also be able to medicate? Tough to do. Sub optimal environments for a sensative fish like....a regal angel is basically a death sentence. Therefore I balance my risks but hedge my bets with lots of cleaners and ozone. Seems to work

High nitrite is very bad, causes what is called brown blood, which is a condition in which the fish's bloodstream cannot carry oxygen to bodily organs. Your fish could all look fine, but could succumb to death quickly. I would change out 40-50% of the water asap. High nitrite coupled with copper use is dangerous as I believe that the copper in the water also reduces the oxygen available for the fish or the fishes ability to use the oxygen present.

This could also be the cause of the chasing going on. If the fish are stressed from the copper and nitrite situation, they will be more intollerant of each other.

I would agree on the feeding advice also. Feed less, the fish won't be harmed and you will have less ammonia in the water, thus less nitrite.

Im not sure what killed my flame... When I pulled it out, it had not a mark on it. Im nost sure if the stress of the damsels beating it up, and the chasing the male was doing getting to it or what. I really thought they were getting along. The last few days there was almost NO chasing, and zero fighting. Im not sure if I can add a female after the male is establisted or not... It is hard to find juvi flames, I think that is why you dont see alot of pair, but it can be done really easily.

Furthur note, the majestic is coloring up alot better now!! I think it was just under alot of stress. All three angels are getting along good though. I havent seen the flame chase the coral beauty in a day now, so that is good!!

My ammonia is zero, so I don't know how that could cause nitrite? I did a %20 percent water change earlier today. I will check the parameters and do another %20 percent tonight if necessary. I definitely have to cut back on food, just a few pieces of clam and emerald entree, twice a day, maybe an algae sheet inbetween. I will keep everyone updated. Scout, don't give up on the flame yet! I want to see you have a pair of flames in your tank! I want to someday, but my car is needing a lot of attention. I put off modding cars and got into this hobby, it's time I switched back for a bit.

...BlueNWhite, nice emp! Mine is a little bit bigger, he is starting to have lighter colors on the top. Does that mean he is color changing? It's weird, just his top is almost faded. The top of adult emperors is more of a light greenish white kind of color. Hopefully he is changing! I really have to get some pics up of my fish.

I've seen a lot of smaller juvenile emps, but mine is about 4 inches and not too much change in it yet. I'll try to get a more recent picture up soon.

He's a little shy, but not overly shy. He does not pick on any fish at all, so I am happy about that.

Dont worry, ill try to get a small one in there before the male domanates, lol. Ive found it really hard to mod cars and do this hobbie toooo, im about to switch back too. My tank is fully stocked with fish, so ill just let it mature before adding to many more corals. Im looking to buy a new car, and mybe get out from under the gas hungry best I drive, . So ill have some work to do under the hood!!

Here's a pic of one end of my tank. Keep in mind that the flash has whitened out a lot of the colour in the fishes.

Funny thing about this one is the Blue Face Angel. This pic was taken in late January 2007. But when I looked recently, I noticed that there is some blue coming back on the tail fin of the Blue Face Angel. I'll try to get a recent picture to show you what I mean. I noticed that my Majestic does a very short chase of the Blue Face once in a while but not causing any harm nor even lengthy chases. I wonder if that is causing the Blue Face to go in a reverse colour transition. That would be strange because the chaeses are very short and very far in between. That is the only bit of chasing that I witness with all of my Angels.

Very nice tank BlueNWhite! That is weird about the blueface. That is a nice angel though, love the adult look. How does the morish idol get along with everything? Is the only chasing going on the majestic on the blueface?

Scout, yeah I know what you mean about gas guzzling cars, that's all I've ever owned! I am considering making mine worst by cammin it, but I don't know, gas prices are going up. I need to get another bike, a gixxer1000 would be nice. 9 second quarters, 30+ mpg, can't beat it.

maro1 anymore details on your setup in progress? What angels are you planning on getting?

I have cut back on my feedings, haven't checked the water lately. Hopefully tomorrow I will and if needed, do another %20 water change.

My tank is up running and recently had to QT everyone from a ICh/velvet breakout.

I am 4 weeks into fallow with 2 or 4 more to go. Everyone is in QT and healthy.

As far as angels I currently have a French 7", annularis 3", Emperor 5", Queen 5".

I'm gald to see others do well with multiple angels. I have always kept multiples together some even being the same genus with no issues. I have a goldflake...scribble...asfur and bandit angel with a moorish idol in qt for 7-8 weeks now with no fights. The are in a 100 gallon system now and a ready to move to a 220. The worst i have ever had was a lemonpeel/half black hybrid. He chased angels 10 times is size and could nip fast and hide easily from them...terrible fish. Good luck to everyone with their angels.

How Long have you had the Idol? How has it gotten along with all the others?

Mar:rollface:
I think I have had the Moorish Idol for about six months now. It was eating pellets at the LFS and it is from Hawaii. From what I've read, the ones from Hawaii are more likely to eat fish food than those from elsewhere. Now it eats everything from flakes to pellets to frozen foods.

I would post another pic of it here, but I don't want to interrupt the 'Multiple Angel' theme.:p
