i am more of a coral guy but my wife wanted a zoo/ric/one or two carpet only tank.

who can argue with the wife when she is right!?!

so, in addition to my 180g sps reef...i just set up a 110g sotie tank.

my gold stripe maroon loved three rbta's to 'death'. no more anemones for him!!! he is currently in my 180g with zero hope of getting him out!

i acquired a green carpet yesterday, plopped him in and is doing great.

as i said...i thought 'all' clowns host in any anemone.

apparetly not!

my orange skunks totally ignored it...so, i go 'well, let's get some pretty black ocellaris...the black fish contrasting on the bright green was alluring.

well, yikes on the black clown prices! i thought, 'ah, $12 or so (fish prices here in socal are usually pretty low)...gimme two!'

anyway, a C-note+ later, i have my two blacks and they havent hosted in my carpet yet...

go figure!

I may have been reading this post wrong, forgive me if I have, but are you trying to say that black clowns are expensive? and if so and you've already purchased them, what with the subject of this thread?

On another note...do you have any pictures of your tanks and nem/clowns?

hi!

yeah, i was just lamenting how much black clowns are in comparison to regular clowns that i am used to.

the tank is still pretty barren and not even close to mature (grown in) as i only started it last week.

i did not have any new tank issues as i used lr aging in my holding tanks and used natural seawater (rather than synthetic).

i'll get a pic out soon when it isnt so embarrassingly barren!

Welcome to the symbiosis club

You might have some issues from adding an anemone to a tank that has not settled in yet. Anemones fresh from the trials of collection and shipping can be even more touchy than SPS, so keep an eye on it and try to keep the parameters in good shape.

There are a few different types of carpet and they all have different lighting, positioning ,and flow needs, so maybe we can help you get an ID on it. A pic of the column and foot usually helps with ID.

As far as the clowns taking to the anemone, that typically takes some time for all but a few specific clown-anemone combos. Be patient with them and they will probably be tumbling in it in no time.

Yeah I did the same thing about 3 months ago. Dropped $100 on 2 Black Ocellaris clowns only for them to be eaten by my carpet in less then 3 weeks. My blacks were tank-raised and the carpet was too sticky for them. I would be careful and watch over them.

I got mine 2 for 40.00. A c note i pricey imo but hey weve all blown money in this hobby.

CB Black Ocellaris, misformed and misbared due to inbreeding is going for about 40.00 each in Houston and San Antonio.
You can get a pair of black A. polymnus for about 35-45 dollars. They are beautiful. S. haddoni is the natural host for these Saddle Back clowns.

it appears to be doing really good so far...eating well with a quick response, mouth nice and tight, good strong grip on a rock, no color loss or bloating like i see in dying carpets.

i have other corals in there as well...like a fox, a scoly, zoo's and ricordeas. all are doing strong and growing already (more zoo numbers already). in fact, i placed the scoly in there because it was dying in my main tank...with skeleton showing and everything...but in this tank...all the skeleton healed up and it is nicely puffing out like a scoly should.

it is and isnt a new tank...as i already had established rock placed in there along with filling it with my established tank water...there really isnt anything new about the tank...except for the container!

i am actually looking for a red and blue one now...c'mon...three carpets...they gotta choose one eventually, yeah!?!
