Peppermint and Anemones

I got two BTA's a few weeks ago and went on vacation to come back to them both being GONE....

Yeah maybe hiding... but one of my sons did not go on vacation with me....

He stated that he thought the Pepp was attacking it. (after I came back :( )

I just got two more and have already added screens around my power heads to keep them from getting sucked into it. just incase that was their demise. I have not found them in any filters (I have two fx5's)

Last night my Purple BTA had a pepp all over it checking it out. It was not acting like it does with aptasia but after it got off it, it cleaned its tenticles which had a bit of grue on them.

Any insight on the relationship between the two?

I did a search here on RC and did not find any threads that talked about it.

no expert but im pretty sure peppermint shrimps annoy them.... WIth my BTA my shrimp would always go into the mouth and take out all the food that i just fed and would constantly be annoying it until it shriveled up and hid

Those shrimp are an annoyance with BTA's. But from what you are explaining it sounds more like the nems were purging their symbiotic algae and the shrimp were on top of them consuming it. If your nems are not healthy and are starting to turn the shrimp will immedately go to consume the inards if allowed to.

What is the condition of your tank, how long has it been setup etc. Cleaner shrimp will not kill a otherwise healthy BTA (I have kept multiple BTA's with multiple Cleaner shrimp). They will as stated above steal the food from the nem. Nems with stronger stings normally do not have this problem, My shrimp never steal from my Magnifica, only my BTA's.

My cleaners will steal food right out of my BTAs tentacles...that was until I added a porcelain crab that defends his nems pretty relentlessly. Prior to him being in there I had to give the cleaners their own piece of food to keep them from stealing the nem's meals.

I used to have the opposite problem, my maroon female would catch the shrimp in her mouth, then repeatidly ram them into the bubble tip until it ate the shrimp.

I have not started to spot feed them yet. I plan on doing that this evening. I will make sure I feed the Pepp first to keep them busy. They love it when a hand comes in the tank. They are all over it.

The turkey baster makes them come running. So I should be able to distract them pretty good.

I had a pep and as soon as I added my rbta it was all over the nem. Picking and pulling at it. It did the same to my frogspawn, but eventually quit after a few minutes. Not with the nem though, any chance the shrimp had got it would harass nem.
