Peppermint Hog compatibility.

A. Grandis,

I just use what they call a "Critter Container" It's a clear plastic container with a snap on top that's vented and has a door that opens. LFS will sometimes put morays or delicate shrimp in them to share a holding area without eating or being eaten by other tankmates.

Can get them basically at any chain petstore like PetSmart etc. Generally in the reptile / amphibian section. I've also made my own out of eggcrate and zip ties but for the $5 bucks it costs to buy them, it's really not worth my 1/2 hour to build. My billable rate is over $10 an hour. :-)

Yeah, I'll go to my LFS to try find it. I gave a fish list to them also.
Hope I can get some fish soon.

Thanks again!!
Grandis.

How about a Flame Angel? I know there is a risk adding a Dwarf Angel with coral but it might be worth looking at. I had one a while back that would nip at SPS coral but nothing else. It could also take care of himself.

Hey printedpaper:
I wouldn't put any fish with my zoas that would have a chance to nip on them. I did before and wasn't good. The zoas suffer in the long run and bacterial infections may occur.
I've tried butterflies also. Not good.
But thanks for the try.

Hey, if anyone out there have any 100% "reef safe"Angel that I could try please tell me.

Some friends had "limited good luck" with Apolemichthys trimaculatus, Genicanthus bellus, G. lamarck, etc.

Grandis.

Genicanthus are about the closest to "reef safe" that you'll get. 100%? I don't know of many fish that are 100% "reef safe"...

I know I'm a bit late to the game LOL I thought I'd throw my 2 cents in :)

I have a large pep hog in my 180. Tankmates are as follows:
Purple tang (large)
blue eyed kole tang (large)
mystery wrasse (HUGE)
black comb tooth blenny (average)
borbonias anthias (large)
2 clowns and LTA (small side for t. percs)
the hog (about the same size as the blenny)

Everyone plays nicely. The purple runs the show, the mystery and the kole mind their own business. Clowns stay in the nem and the anthias doesn't take anyones crap, but isn't above a game of chase. I thought the hog was the nicest quietest fishie :)

Then one day, I was feeding the nem some table shrimp and the mystery and the hog looked at each other with wild eyes.. crazyiest thing I've ever seen. Other than that, everything is fine... No shrimp- everyone plays nicely :)

Sometime this week I'm going to mix it up though... 4 new fishes to the reef (the last 4)

Copperband butterfly
blue sided fairy wrasse
harlequin tusk
magnificent foxface

There was a post here just recently about a guy who tried a Genicanthus only to have it nip at a bunch of his sps, lps, and softies.
