percs won't host huge RBTA

Hi guys,
I just got a 6" RBTA for $35 :D and its been doing great in my tank eating tiger prawns (They come from the Indo-pacific as well). The problem is that both of my percs won't even acknowledge that the anemone is there. Its really frustrating. I have 130w Sunpaq PC lights and the anemone is on the top part of the rock. Here is a pic.

Try putting up a picture of clowns hosting in an rbta and they should go into the rbta after they get the picture, literally, lol.

you should be skeptical, thats the most idiotic thing ive ever heard. there is nothing you can do about it, if they want they will host, if not you can not do anything about it.

Wow thats nice to say, i am giving help and advice, so please dont call me an idiot. And in fact yes this does work and has been proven to work.

Pufferman just keep the picture up on the tank, near the rbta and just leave it there until they start to host. They will seriously get the picture. I was very skeptical at first just like you are now and you should be b/c it sounds pretty weird but it does in fact work.

They will host, IME. Give them time and if worse comes to worst play them a video of clowns on the discovery channel (just kidding bluecarpet :) ).

How long have you had the percs, how old are they and are they paired off already?

FWIW: Some people have tried adjusting clowns to the anemone at night. After the lights go off they point a flashlight (with the light on :) ) at the anemone and supposedly some clowns will follow the light and end up snuggling with the anemone. I've never had to do this myself, eventually my clowns find the anemone themselves.

have also used the picture method with good results, and funnily enough also had very similar remarks made on forums when suggesting the idea!

I have had the percs for about three years now. And they have been paired for about two. I know this because the bigger female likes to boss around the smaller male, and cause they sleep together (hmm...that came out wrong).

Actually I don't think the picture is a bad idea either. My yellow tang attacks his reflection on the glass for hours at a time. Why not try it.

Yeah, don't worry. Nothing you can do. It's all up to you fish. I used to have seabae anemone and carpet anemone and 2 clownfish. My clownfish did not host in carpet anemone at all, until the seabae died, then they choose to host with carpet anemone.

IT'S ALL UP TO DA FISH, NOT U. DON'T BE FRUSTRATED

The picture idea will work, just give it time, and it will work.

Can you show me some references? Sounds interesting to me.

mention of it here:

has mainly been mentioned anecdotally on forums in magazines etc. those of us that have tried it often swear by it. i guess it's just one of those things that travels by word of mouth. i would think the picture triggers some sort of territorial/familial instinct, from what i observed when trying it.

the clowns start to posture aggressively toward the picture, and eventually look for somewhere to retreat, to cut a long story short.

'tis very interesting to watch.

"throw a grouper in the tank"

HAHAHHAHAHAHA ... run little clowns...runnnn, whoops i mean swim... !!!!!

also for future reference, you can just take a pic of a clown and put in down by the anemone so they see another clown down there too.
