Perry's 120 Gallon Reef

Hey Perry, love the colour on that teal stag! Any chance of top down shots? :D Your corals are nicely coloured - top downs would look awesome! :lol2:

Here you go Sahin, a little top-down love, some of this pics were crappy, but did get a few nice ones :)

Nice photos perry!!
You have some very nice acros there and nice colored too!
Looks much better with sand.

Will you put any cuc to keep it clean in the long way?

Thanks Mike!
I do have 3 cuc's in the tank, 2 medium and one larger, they seem to do a decent job with cleanup. I will likely get a sand sifting goby to add to the tank, not too large though, not wanting constant sand storms. Maybe also a sand sifting starfish along side of manual sifting on a periodic basis. Thanks for checking things out.
Regards,

A few more snapped tonight :)

Very nice Perry! Did I spot a Hawkins in there as well?

Thanks Sahin, and yes that is the Hawkins, looks pretty good, but the RBTA lives close by and fully expanded seems to occasionally come into contact with the tips of this coral, possibly stinging it, not sure, but a few tips nearest the RBTA show signs of slight necrosis. Something to keep an eye on for sure :)

Nice pics perry!!
Forgot to ask you before...did you notice any changes to the parameters of the water, after adding sand?

A friend of mine had a rbta near a montipora.
At the beggining it didn't do much harm when she touched the monti but after a few months, she doubled her size and it killed the monti everywhere they had contact.

With regards to parameters, I did not notice too much of a fluctuation, however, I have been bumping the alk/ca program up from 25ml to 33ml, to now 45ml per day 2 part dosing using the ESV 2 part formula. I do not attribute this to sand, I attribute it to seeing some larger colonies demanding the alk/ca/mg uptake. I am still dialing things in as far as parameters go, I test every day, I feel this is my clue on how things are inside the glass box. This allowed me to notice an alk decline, w/o a CA decline, only to realize that somehow my dosing alk line was pulling air instead of the alk formula, likely due to me messing around and accidentally pulling the feed line out of the formula. All good now, but this is why I test everyday, until I know 100% my alk/ca/mg uptake, I will be diligent in finding the sweet spot, especially with my dosers and testing. BTW, fresh RO/DI water comes into the tank remotely via gravity feed.

Glad nothing went wrong with the alk thing perry!
100% with you on the regular tests;)
Sometimes it's sooooo boring to execute but sooooo important:)
Thanks for the reply

Thanks,
The alk swing was obviously on the lower side, when I saw 7.1 when I was constantly reading 7.5-7.7, I knew something was off, so glad I record each test, time of day, etc. I find this important as well, I try to test the same time of day as much as possible, this way I get accurate results of consumption. Mag still is a struggle, I hesitate to go big and add too much, not sure if maybe I should get another test kit and test it side by side, currently using Salifert for mag, CA, NO3. Using LaMotte for Alk, and PO4 with Hannah Pocket meter.

Been awhile...

Not so great update:
Ich break out caused many fish deaths, lost 2 chromis, powder blue tang, red sea purple tang, and pair of clowns. Only the Hippo, leopard wrasse, and high fin goby made it. Bummed me out big time!
I went on a cruise late march, then came home to a mess, red slime, lost GBN colony, Blue Tort, and some of the non acro variety stressed. So needless to say, things have not been too favorable.
Have cleaned things up a touch, added a fish today, a diamond goby to aid in sand turnover. I re-scaped a bit, the tank actually looks pretty good, but will hold off on photos for a spell.
Thanks for looking :)

Sorry to hear about the ich, red slime and coral loss, Perry. I'm sure with time, things will bounce back!

Thanks Kasey!
I appreciate the positive words of encouragement. I have no complaints, really grateful that the majority of the acros have hung in there, in fact, PE is better than ever, but with w/c's and tlc, I am sure things will rebound, I have added some really nice frags, so looking forward to that :)

Sorry dude. :(

Keep up the maintenance effort and I'm sure all will get better.

Thanks Sahin,
Seems as though the more simple I make the tank, the better the results. I am only dosing 2 part, food, and skim right now.. Thanks for the words of encouragement!

Interesting...
After a month of no supplement besides alk/ca/mg, the cyano is fading, the sandbed has returned to a clean white color, most other spots continue to dissipate. I did a 10 gallon water change last week. I have still running the active gfo and carbon, but they have not been replaced in 8 weeks, so they are becoming less effective, I really do not consider them as filtration at this point. That said, I do feel like my tank is becoming quite stable, most corals are in the 95-100% health range, a few suffered and had spots of cyano, but that too is clearing. I have added some sweet additions, will update with pics later.
Thanks,

These are some great news perry buddy!:)

I want to see some new additioooons:)
Don't leave us hanging!
