Perry's 120 Gallon Reef

Looking good! I don't want to get too enthusiastic about any product or line of products but I'm very happy and a bit surprised at how well the AF products are working for me. Im starting to see some corals lighten a bit as well, color is fantastic:)

Display is looking good Perry, i think you need to buy some more acros...........;)

It's you guys and your learned SPS keeping skills that are responsible for how great both your reefs are looking, the AF is just a tool that i'm sure many will find easier to employ thanks to your journal Matt

LOL,
It is hard not to get enthusiastic, but I must admit I am seeing significant color changes, not typical of any other system I have run, other than the entire zeovit lineup. I feel the AF products are easier to employ and I am yet to see any negative effects from any of the products so far, even using phos minus in addition to the lineup is not causing any signs of stress. Test results are one thing, but the overall appearance and condition of the rocks and tank are another. With zeovit I always had to get another product to fix the cause of cyano, or bubble, or hair algae, even with test kits revealing 0.00 on both NO3 and PO4. The only algae is light patches of green slime, nothing too unsightly, and every dose of Coral B seems to diminish is that much further, as well as regular water changes with siphoning. I will be shooting some pics of a few that are showing drastic color shifts hopefully today or tomorrow :)

Thanks Andrew, the tank is full and the frag tank is full, think I am going work on my fish population next. I will be adding a pair of Bellus Angels to the tank in the upcoming weeks, they are pretty expensive, even at cost :)

Thanks Andrew, with Matt and I having similar tank volumes, his info was key in my transition. We are both experiencing very similar color changes, looking over Matt's last batch of pics, I see the same thing happening to my corals, pronounced coloration at the tips, with the base getting pulled back or lightened. With a bit of luck, hopefully I will get my corals to glow like you and Matt!

I will be documenting color shifts on individual corals that I see with noticeable changes. I knew this coral had lots of potential, but whatever milli it is is showing a redish/pink hue in the base and tips, you can see it more pronounced in the second pic. This first pic was taken last week.

This pic taken today, I have been noticing the redish/pink color coming on, but until I processed the photo top down this AM, I really couldn't notice the drastic shift...

I'm glad my experiences helped Perry:thumbsup: I'm in the same boat with my surprise at how well that the system has worked - and I tried Zeovit with very little success years ago. The AIO biopellets worked well to keep phosphate low but the color changes that have been happening with Aquaforest are a new thing entirely:)

Wow, that's pretty cool! One of the benefits of taking lots of digital pics is being able to go back and compare and show real changes occurring(or find out that its only in my head). Keep them coming!

That's gorgeous Perry!! If the improvements continue at this rate you'll have one really kickass radiant milli in no time!! :eek1:

The tank is looking stunning too, I know I mentioned this last time but I really am stoked to see it come along like this since you "restarted" it :) (not that I was expecting any less ;) lol)

Matt and Dom,
Thanks for the kind words of encouragement :)
I am approaching the 1 month mark of using AF, and I can honestly say that I did not think the system would go to work this quickly. The siporax is about 5 weeks seeded now, I think it is starting to kick in. I am going to push the zeolites to 5-6 weeks vs. the recommended 4, and like you Matt, I will replace 1/2 of the zeolites for the initial exchange, there after using 100% media change. Here is my current schedule.

Aquaforest Dosing Schedule based on 180 gallons

Low Nutrient System:
1. Phos Minus- 1cup in RX
2. AF Carbon- 2 cups in RX
3. AF Zeomix- 3 cups in Vertex Zeolite RX(shaken every 2-3 days)

Daily Dosing For Low Nutrient System:
1. NP Pro- 6 drops each morning
2. Pro Bio S- 6 drops each moring
3. Pro Bio F- 3 spoons each morning
4. 10 gallon water change with Probiotic Reef Salt- on Mondays

Coral Nutrition/ Supplements:
1. Coral A and V- Mon-Wed-Fri
2. Coral B and E- Tue-Thurs-Sat
3. Salifert Hard Trace- 10ml Friday
4. Brightwell I-K-B- 5ml each Sunday

Current Parameters:
Alk- 6.92~Lamotte
Ca- 430~Salifert
Mag- 1300~Salifert
NO3- 0.20~Salifert
PO4- 0.00~Hanna
S.G.- 1.026
K- 410

Note: I am currently using Seachem's Reef Fusion until is expires, I will then transfer over to the 3 part component system with AF. 2 of the parts can be mixed together, which is nice, so I do not have to expand my dosing unit yet. At this point I will scrap whatever trace mineral supplements I have, and convert on over to the aquaforest products. I am currently happy with my minerals and trace, but given the expense for the AF products are similar, if not cheaper than my current ones, I have no problem converting to the entire lineup, it just makes sense to me based on my observations regarding the high quality with each product so far. Thanks for taking the time to visit my journal :)

For anyone in Canada, specifically in the GTA, Canada Corals will have AF in a few months. In the mean time we can watch this thread for more brilliant results

Hi Perry..... nice change in color there. I still have some SPS, at least 1 is an Acro, that it haven't recover yet his original color, still brownish. For now I am only doing AF probiotic salt.

You wrote that tha,AF balling system (3 components) 2 can be mixed.

One is the Alk, the other the Ca and the 3 rd one is (whatever) minus the salt, to compensate the salinity increase due to dosing. Am I missunderstanding ? Can I mix 2 of the 3 components ?

Cheers
Daniel

Thank you.

No problem, my pleasure :)

Well thank you, I am stoked you are looking things over :) I don't mind being a guinea pig, lol...

Daniel I believe on the label is where I got this information, the user guide does not indicate. The LFS I work at a few days a week is using the AF products and component system. We have been hand dosing so far, as the tanks have virtually no livestock while cycling over to AF Probiotic System. We also are using NP Pro dosing liquid, not the concentrated version, they have a plastic liter bottle that is diluted so you can dose 5ml per 27 gallons, vs 1 drop of concentrated per 27 gallons. This information too is left out of the user guide, had to read the plastic liter bottle to get the proper info, at least on the dosing version. I think it is component 1 and 3 that can mix, it is the 2 not containing alk supplementation. I will report back to the thread on Weds, when I go back and re-read, as I could have been confused, so please do not quote me, lol.... :)

No problem at all Perry !!!!

Here are 2 points that will be great if it can be done:

A ) Supplements dilutions: if they stay stable that will be great so you can use dosing pump. Like myself that I travel every week.

B) Balling system: Component 1 and 2 Can't be missed. They are Alk and Ca. Component 3 is all, minus the salt component. Component 3 dilutes the salinity increase due to component 1 and 2. And you need to add equal volumes of each. My old time chemistry is telling in my brain that they can't be mixed .......BUT could be I am totally wrong !!!! I will continue looking on internet.

If comp 1 and 3 has the same concentration of all, MINUS the Ca "only", then it can be mixed. Unless some of the other supplements can't be mixed at those concentration. In the tank they are highly diluted.

Cheers
Daniel

Damn, Perry! That is looking outstanding!! Where are you at with dosing? Any changes from the daily routine you laid out earlier? What is your photoperiod now?
