by the way "college" they actually take decent care of their fish i used to work at the bay pines pet mart and there systems might look algaeish but infact they were pretty damn healthy systems. very few fish were lost from poor water quality so get your facts right before u start to ridicule a store please
You said "get your facts straight" ????
I am very familiar with both the St. Pete and Tampa stores, I have first hand observed the husbandry of the fish and corals. IMO, Petmart in Tampa is one of the worst stores for healthy livestock.
You are welcome to have an opinion that disagrees with me, but lets be clear...these are both opinions not facts.

Pet Mart in Tampa has one main fish system so it would not matter if the chemical was put in a tank with or without a lid. Nick does terminate his employees for little or no reason. Could it have been one of his ex-employees? As for the chemical, it probably was alka seltzer. Ever seen what one tablet does to a bird? You can easily toss a few in their systems without anyone noticing and because they are white, they blend right in with the sand. Check those cameras Pet Mart. There has to be some lead running through the cameras

Well I will say to ALL OF YOU, ALL , Pet Mart (both) is really trying hard now .I had a talk with Nick the owner to get some things clear, Like caring for these animals, I got to say he can TALK,AND TALK, But its all positive, he's a business man, and he DOES CARE FOR THESE ANIMALS, its the employees lack of caring, knowing, just plain don't give a sh*t, there's lots of employees in this business that don't CARE, I'm shore that there's plenty of story's and reasons ways people don't like him.

I got to say that ever since Jason started to work there , slowly but shorly it was changing, Nick was listening to Jason ideas, advise, etc, J knows his STUFF, he Care's, and I got to say its a lot of stress to all, and its slowly comming around, its hard to find good honest people to work, and or knowing there STUFF in this hobby, I've got to say that Jason (reeferssnob) got me into the sps, and how to care for them, When I got into it I told J that I'm going in FULL THROOTLE, AND SO FAR SO GOOD.

I think the best thing Nick did was getting rid, buying out, his brother Gus, sorry Nick its my opinion, he's a good person, allways willing to help out, he may be big, scary, huge as in if he grabs you he CAN sqish you, have you seen his FINGERS, if he flicked you , you would have a whole in your body like a meteor hit you, lol, hahaha, you the man Nick, DON'T LET THOSE LOSERS GET YOU DOWN, WOOOSSAA BABY,WOOOSSAA (BAD BOYS WITH WILL SMITH AND MARTIN LARINCE). keep on the good work, its hard running a store period.

There are so many different things that could have been put into the system to kill the fish but I doubt it was alka seltzer. The amount needed to wipe out an entire fish system in such a short period of time would have been noticeable as it would have probably created some serious foam in the water prior to disolving. It would have also registered on a PH test.
Does anyone recall the incident at Exotic Aquatics a few years ago where a disgruntled customer threw bleach tablets into their huge show tank and killed everything in it? All it takes is one bad experience with someone with a temper and you can have an outcome like this.

Laz,
I will say that it is the job of any good business owner to take full responsibility of what goes on in their store and that includes the attitude of their employees. Given the current economical atmosphere it is difficult to find good help if you have a limited operating cost but it is also an owner/managers job to find ways to utilize what resources they have to provide good products and service. Employee attitude starts from the top and trickles down to the lowest positions in a company and poor customer service and products will kill a business, especially in a competive market.

The livestock aspect of any LFS business is somewhat tricky because of the limited control a store has on regulating its quality due to its delicate nature and care requirements but looking at the various stores around the area, some do everything in their power to put the care of their livestock above and beyond since the bottom line will be dictated by how many fish and corals make it to the end customer and not in a garbage can or lying dead at the bottom of a display tank and just the overall responsibility to the well being of the animals being maintained and sold.

This "problem" occured at several stores in south Louisiana about 8 years ago. As a result, several of the stores rebuilt their systems so that access is only from the rear of the tanks, and that requires going through a locked door. One store even has a video camera on that door with several live monitors in the store.

sorry "college" for goin at you but im just sick of people always downing pet mart you know they might not be comparable to faois or anything but it is still a decent store u might disagree with the way they keep stuff and that is your opinion. but in my opinion they keep there stuff very well, they also care about there fish. when i worked there everyday we would do a walk through lookin for parasites or infections and dipping or putting fish in hospitol tanks when nescessary. Also everyfish in my tank has come from bay pines have not lost a single one(watanabi angel, bellus angel, candycane hog, yellow coris wrasse, and my vlamingi, pencil wrasse all alive and healthy) so im just sayin i wish people wouldnt bash that store as much. This forum is here to talk about peoples tanks and good stores and imo its not here to totally unleash on a single store and bash them repeatedly. its just gettin sorta old

Man this is sooooo crazy...I cant believe people can do something like that, its freaking unreal.

BTW Jason is the man...I go to pet mart exclusively just for him. He cares for the hobby and really knows his stuff. I have a bellus angel and a 4-line wrasse from there and they are super healthy and awesome fish.

Jason hang in there man!!

Have you ever heard the expresion: "If the shoe fits"?
This shoe fits in my opinion. Pet Mart has not had the best husbandry practices in my opinion.
Regardless of how they treat people, the health of their fish, or whatever else people complain about, they didn't deserve this.
One word came to mind when I first read this story yesterday, "karma".
How many people have lost every fish in their tanks due to putting a fish from PM(Tampa) in there? A lot in my opinion.
So NanoManMaster, when Pet Mart decides to make the changes needed, I am sure people will stop talking trash about them. Until then, everyone has a right to their own opinion. Just like you with your's. Right?
I just get tired of people bashing this store, and with others that think they can change everyone's minds by posting they had a good experience there.
Remember, this is just MY OPINION. Not trying to start a fight, or a ****ing match.
One more thing, if this forum is here to talk about good stores, then why isn't it ok to talk about bad stores? Just asking.

its ok to talk about bad stores to an extent i mean yeah if someone has a horrible visit to one store or another please share but some people on here just dont stop trashin them. its rediculouse.

honestly about half of the people who sit here and ridicule pet mart probably havnt even been into the store yet they see how bad it is and how dirty it is through other people, people bash them to an extent to where it forms opinions for people. and that draws the line for me on when it turns from a bad experience to all out stomping that store into the ground with rediculouse comments. and well thats just my opinion

and no i dont think i can change everyones mind at all i just wish that people would keep more of there thoughts to themselves on this subject because we all know what people think of the store we dont need to repeat it all over again and again and again. it gets old and tiring to me. it seems like all i hear on the forum is lets worship faois and kill petmart. im not sayin faois is bad i love the store but lets just give it a break with the petmart bashin

damn that must be the problem then, what's saltwater with out chlorine ?

it's understandable to bash the past, but jay knows more than the majority of the people on this board, and pet mart gets stuff from many of the same places that other stores do. so it maybe be time to back off, or go in and quiz the guy in charge of those systems.

this tree was planted in memory of the baby that passed in 06 of july6, now its 3 times bigger, like the one pic above now, they grow quick with proper food and care.

they'll get tall like these if you bundle them as baby's, and or grow fat and stubby if grown singley. I plant what ever the customer wants, picks, and I go and find the best around,I like working with different flowering trees, it gives color around the property and color is a healing power in gardens, and different flowering times throwout the year.

Fair enough. I respect your opinion about PM. I am also open to PM demonstating to me that their husbandry has changed. Personal experiences discussed on this board (both good and bad) and very valuable to helping other hobbyist have good experiences and avoid bad ones. Your opinion is equally important to me.
