pet mart got hit

I worked at a Wal-Mart years ago in NY and I ran the pet dept there. I had set up a 75 gallon tank for those little common fantail goldfish we used to sell for a 1.00 . I know its no saltwater tank or reef but this is the story. I had put on more than ample filtration for the load I had in the tank and it was running beautifully. The little fish were happy and I had VERY few losses in that area. I got in a shipment of 96 fish one Thursday and things were going well . Then Friday night my manager called me at home. Someone had dumped dog shampoo in the tank. I rush to the store and there was nothing I could do. It had absolutely destroyed the tank. I went over the video tapes with the store manager thinking it may be a small business in the area. We found out who it was. He was 10 years old and the parents were nowhere to be found.
As far as someone doing this to PetMart , it's a damn shame . I don't care what kind of store it is or what kind of group it is that thinks they are doing the right thing. Ignorance has become so commonplace these days.
If it was a rival business then they just showed how stupid they are.
If it was a group of some sort they are also as ignorant.
If it was a disgruntled employee then you have witnessed the truest form of cowardice.
Do I like Petmart, I could take em or leave em.
Have I bought from them, yup, I have a beautiful Yellow Tang I got as a tiny thing and hes a big ole boy now. Also got a Candycane coral there too along with a Cyanaria, which is also doing very well.
Do I think they could improve the way they do things ,yes, but I can't bash em I haven't tried to work with anything like that before.
Hopefully they will do something to prevent it from happening again but it is a business , and in the end if it's not a sound business decision I don't see it happening.
Will they do anything to the people responsible, probably not, we won't even take care of some of the sick people that kill other people.

me and Jason at a bar, after a long day at work for all you REEFERS, I wined him down from the fishie Attack.

Those of you that don't know J (reefersnob) is a skilled, knows his stuff employee that cares and try hard to help change things for the better, geee's look at the tamps store progress, the last thing Nick needs to do after all the remodeling is a nice shiny floor, maybe tile, wood,or something with fishie designs,.

I heard today that it was probably bleach that did from one of their own employees??? Their entire fish system is run off of one system and they change the microns whenever the PSI builds up to an excess. To clean the microns, they bleach them and are supposed to dechlorinate the microns before putting them back. I guess accidentally a micron with bleach still running fresh through it was put into the system. Has anyone else heard this from anyone?

Hey HotReeferSRT4, Just leave the situation as it is. We all know that you work for a competitor and happened to be an old employee at Petmart so your making the events that happened seem like its the stores fault. Just leave it alone and tell Tom... Oh I meant Barry, we said Hi.

LMAO... now that is toOOooo funny. I happened to stay out of this thread since it started, but hotreeferSRT... is that really u??? ROFLMAO!!!!!!

Haaa. Awesome. Just wanna get the story straight thats all. I'm surprised you still work there Karmaz. Figured they would have found some stupid reason to fire you by now.

Hey either call me lucky or maybe I'm just really good at what I do. This whole situation almost turn this forum from a tragic event being posted to a fiasco. lets just leave this thing die out. Later

Hahaha i've never met you but i guess that means you might be my replacement and i can def. tell you're a petmart employee because They're all cocky as heck until they get fired for "some stupid reason" Yes im calling my self cocky. Regardless, everyone who worked or works at petmart exactly knows how microns are changed. What hotreefer said is absolutely possible. But of course, i dont know the whole situation. Who knows maybe they caught the A hole in one of Nicks library of surveillance tapes. I guess what im trying to say is that anything is still a possibility until we know for sure.

If it was the micron, chlorine, ammonia, or something would've shown on a test. Everything tested out perfect. And thanks for the kind words from the local reefers. I do work very hard at keeping those fish healthy. And will continue to do so.

I'm betting on some type of bug killer, sevin, or any thing like that...kills FAST...same stuff they use in hornet spray...knocks a flying hornet right out of the air, dead...wouldn't take much and wouldn't take long to kill fish using that. Hope they throw the book at the jerk that did this...

well two people dressed in orange walked into petmart yesterday and dropped something in the tanks AGAIN!! this time it was the freshwater system. it dropped the ph to nearly 4 and killed close to 150 fish.
what is wrong with these people? could it really be animal rights activists or just really ****ed off customers?

Same store, orange shirts?? Cuz if thats the case I'm now blaming the store for not watching their "customers" more closely.
