I worked at a Wal-Mart years ago in NY and I ran the pet dept there. I had set up a 75 gallon tank for those little common fantail goldfish we used to sell for a 1.00 . I know its no saltwater tank or reef but this is the story. I had put on more than ample filtration for the load I had in the tank and it was running beautifully. The little fish were happy and I had VERY few losses in that area. I got in a shipment of 96 fish one Thursday and things were going well . Then Friday night my manager called me at home. Someone had dumped dog shampoo in the tank. I rush to the store and there was nothing I could do. It had absolutely destroyed the tank. I went over the video tapes with the store manager thinking it may be a small business in the area. We found out who it was. He was 10 years old and the parents were nowhere to be found.
As far as someone doing this to PetMart , it's a damn shame . I don't care what kind of store it is or what kind of group it is that thinks they are doing the right thing. Ignorance has become so commonplace these days.
If it was a rival business then they just showed how stupid they are.
If it was a group of some sort they are also as ignorant.
If it was a disgruntled employee then you have witnessed the truest form of cowardice.
Do I like Petmart, I could take em or leave em.
Have I bought from them, yup, I have a beautiful Yellow Tang I got as a tiny thing and hes a big ole boy now. Also got a Candycane coral there too along with a Cyanaria, which is also doing very well.
Do I think they could improve the way they do things ,yes, but I can't bash em I haven't tried to work with anything like that before.
Hopefully they will do something to prevent it from happening again but it is a business , and in the end if it's not a sound business decision I don't see it happening.
Will they do anything to the people responsible, probably not, we won't even take care of some of the sick people that kill other people.
