I use zoa as a general term because it is short for zoanthid, not to sound smart (another general term for zoanthid like corals)-I just like to be as correct as possible. Zoo may be what some call old school, but if it is an abbreviation for zoanthid, where does the extra o come from
. But to each his own on that one. The difference doesn't bother me at all.
If we want to get on pet peeves, one I try not to preach on too much (especially since no one seems to care), but admit I'm a nazi on is Zoanthus sp. vs Palythoa sp. Larger polyp size does not mean it is a Paly... Very few of what we have are actaully Palythoa sp... I've typed the difference too many times, so I've decided ignorance is bliss and to stop...

In my geography and planning class, we viewed a chart that shaded all the areas of the United Stated, where "carbonated beverages" were called differently. The South, all the way to Texas, says, Coke. Now that bothers me because if I go into a restuarant and ask for a coke and they say what kind of coke, I assume, diet, regular, and maybe vanilla. I do not get Coke, to mean Dr. Pepper. The midwest does refer to pop, and the east, mainly calls it soda. Can't remember the majority of the west, I think they call it soda. It is all an interesting geographical concept. Maybe one should do a study about where people call the "Z" word differently. I will pay for the funding.

yea, we call them root beer floats or whatever "pop" is added. But, we usually call them floats instead of that other pop word. I hate the treats, honestly, pop and ice cream equals vomit.

I just wish all of the other threads would get 3 pages of responses for every question posted. I have been growing zoas for a very long time, me personally, it doesn't make a differences at all in this forum what they are called. I am more concerned with husbandry, proper lighting, flow, diease prevention, problem solving, helping, sharing, listening and learning.
When you click on the Zoanthid forum to come here and you see the word Zoa, I simply can't believe that anyone of resonable intelligence couldn't figure it out. I mean absolutely no disrespect whatsoever to the reefer who started this thread. I just think there are far bigger zoanthid and Palythoa related issues to tackle.
For the record, I refer to them as Z's, zoas and zoanthids. I refer to Playthoas as P's, palys and palythoas.
Just my 2 cents.
