PET PEEVES....list them here

A pet peeve of mine is when people think there is only one way to do something for ever and ever. ORA captive bred, pellet-eating mandarins are a perfect example. This hobby evolves.

Of the hundreds of posts on Mandarins in a nano... how many are ORA captive bred Mandarins? I realize that there is some success with teaching wild caught Mandarin to eat prepared foods. But for every exception that is successful there is probably 100 dead mandarins.

I love this thread. I'm very peevish. One more.

People who pronounce "anemone" like it's spelled "anenome". Including many LFS workers!!!

Fair enough. Just sayin'. Things progress and people can be pretty hesitant to give up their old "rules".

Ok, this is so shallow of me, but I guess it's allowed for the purpose of this thread.....

People who buy a big tank and post a shot of themselves, their wife, their kids, their pets, their empty beer/coke bottles, etc., sitting in the empty tank.

....yes, I know it's a big tank....no need for these pics to get a sense of scale.

To go along with this, usually people post their extremely expensive car/motorcycle ect. in these threads too. THAT really gets me. I get it, you have money, jesus. I think that might be my pet peeve.

when people are showing off their pictures of their tanks, which i think is cool. but then they take pictures of just their fish, that just look like any other fish of that kind. i don't need to see a pic of your clownfish, if it looks just like any other clownfish.

You mean like this?

Ding ding ding!!

My pet peeve is when people come to RC and ask an opinion about something and when they are given a specific answer, they ingnore that/those answer/s until they hear what they want to hear. I'll give you a for instance; the proper housing and care of a mandarin. Gets my goat every time.

I'm about to do exactly that, get a 90 when everyone told me to get a 120. It may seem that I'm not following everyones advice, but in actuality nobody addressed any of the issues I was most worried about.

Oh, friends who ask advise on setting up a tank then later disses you by acting like they know better while asking you for free stuff. "hey, can I have some of your live rock?" I don't think so.

People who absolutely like the clean look who criticizes me for wanting to put powerheads or wavemakers because it doesn't look professional. I just tell them I put 4 mp40s and 10 tunzes in the tank because I can.

My peeve is: "I got a Sand Sifter in my 30g for about a year and a half now and its starting to melt? How do I fix it?" or "I had a Star in my 30g for a year before I moved it to my 300g so small tanks aren't a death sentence for stars like people say they are."

people that post pictures of crappy looking tanks... what am i supposed to do, lie to you and tell you it looks great, and that you're doing a great job???

I'd really prefer that. In fact it makes me want to post pictures of my tank so people could rip it apart, and I could learn something. It reminds me of what my tennis instructor once said. "If you're doing a crappy job, I'll tell you you're doing a crappy job. I won't say good try, good try, now try holding the racket by the handle instead of the head".

I have a few pet peeves...but my newest is: "Where are the selling forums?" There's a thread with that title posted about once every 4 minutes.

+1 I prefer to be told if something sucks, preferably with minimal snark. A little pain up front prevents a lot of embarassment later.

If more people were told the truth, fewer people would audition for American Idol and those kinds of shows. They always sound surprised when they're told they suck. "But, but, but, my friends and family say I have a BEAUTIFUL voice!"
