Well I bought one, white with purple tips, looks much like a Sabae. New to the hobby so I wanna know what it's gonna take to make this thing live? I have read a bit about how its junk but i'm determined to make it live now. Please don't give me any responses about throwing it out, I just want positive responses!

Thanks alot, Nic

Do you know what kind of lighting it was under at the store?
That'll help to give an idea of what lighting you will need for it to get good and healthy so it can start growing for you. :-)

the amount of lighting that 'anything' was under at a petco..has no direct connection to what it actually needs....pls give a more in depth description of the animal so the informed masses here can help more...you'd have better luck researching before you buy :D

If it's from petco, it's probably a condy, or at least that's what the petco around my area usually stocks as far as nems go. If it is indeed a condy, I've heard they can be rather tough to keep...good luck!

I have seen those petco nems where I live. They are always condy's around here. +1 to the lighting it was under at petco having any correlation to its true needs. I have successfully kept the only to nems I have ever purchased. One is a pretty LTA about 10 inches across...the name of the other is slipping my mind at the moment. But it is a short tentacle yellow nem with purple tips. I got lucky in my opinion. Prior to doing all my research and reading along with making friends in the hobby I bought bothe nems when my tank was only 5 months old. The correct lighting is very important. If you have insufficient lighting they will roam endlessly til they die. Also I only feed mine 1 silverside every 5 days. I only know of one person who has purchased those nems from petco. Both died within a month. His tank was established 15 months. He had sufficient lighting and good water quality. Good luck. Just try to get a verified ID of the nem then scour the interwebz for info. Also read in the forums. Between the knwledge from people in forums who have kept them and your research you will atleast know you did things right. This isnt meant to be a ngative comment but if your tank is less than 6 months old I would seriously consider returning it if possible, chances are it wont survive. I have heard many sstories of anemones dying an early death and the majority of those stories are from people with young tanks. Many of which successfully housed a nem after their tank hit a year old. Another thing to keep in mind is that nems dont die fast so having it alive for a month doesnt mean your in the clear. You should see it eat and expel waste atleast once a week. If you dont spend alot of time in front of your tank you may not see this. I would try to pay extra attention until you see it eating and expelling.

it may be a sabae. I've seen a few from there.

I also agree that it doesn't matter what lighting it was under from Petco.

To keep even the easiest anemonies (BTA's IMO) you need pretty strong illumination. I've not kept one successfully under anything less than 250w HQI.

If you currently have PC, or VHO I would see what I can do to get it back (unless you have a huge bank of them).

If it had purple tips and is kind of creamy brown, it's probably a condy. Sebae nems have more of a brownish tip and tend to have shorter tentacles than the condy.

I kept a condy for about 8 months before killing it when I accidentally overheated my tank. That guy was tough as nails and hosted both my bicinctus clowns and my cinnamon clown (2 different tanks)

I know that you said that you only want positive responses, but I can't give you that.

Still need to see a picture, but it sounds like a very very bleached Sebea --- white anemones should be avoided unless you are very experienced with bringing them back, it isn't easy. It should be more of a brown/tan color.

As for the chances of it recovering, need to know more about your tank (( size, how long it has been set up, filtration, water parameters -- with numbers, and what lights you have. ))

I think that's a little broad in terms of types of lighting for anemones. It is my understanding many can be kept under T5's.

I got my Seabe anem from petco over a year ago, and it has almost doubled in size. I keep mine under PC's and it has done fine. I had to take 5 pictures to get one w/out the tangs in it - they love the camera for some reason..
