Petco carpet anemone

I just wanted to share this with you guys because its pretty stunning. My brother bought a carpet anemone from petco a few months ago, and needless to say it wasnt in the greatest shape. It was only 40$ and kinda brown. The mouth wasnt gaping but it was certainly open and it was sure to perish if left at petco another week. Anyhow after some tlc from my bro it turned into this 14" monstrous blue-green beauty! This is his first ever attempt at keeping a nem of any kind btw... You should still treat it with Ciprofloxacin so no secondary infection. Many turn good then perish cause of infection.

Great save from certain death! What is your brother's lighting and feeding regimen?

Agreed! I was super stoked for him especially having no prior experience with any other type of nem. He runs a 4x54watt t5ho tek fixture with Geisemann bulbs. Actinic plus, pink plus, actinic plus, actinic plus. He only feeds the nem once a week, it gets most of its nutrition from photo and it catches some food when he feeds his fish. He has a blue mandarin, a breeding pair of ocellaris clowns( one regular and one black and white), a warpaint or clown goby, a blue spot sleeper goby, and a bicolor psuedochromis. He feeds them three times a day varied between cyclopeeze, mysis, nls pellets, and Larrys reef frenzy. He keeps mainly lps corals so his water isnt super clean or low in nutrients. Actually he is just getting into sps I gave him a small piece of my oregon tort and an orange setosa recently and they are doing excellent as well.

As far as the cipro goes I dont know much about where to get it or how to use it. If you think it is something that is essential I will look into it however, because I know my bro has no clue what it is. Perhaps you could give me a little info on it? Or possibly point me in the right direction. I think I remember minh using it and documenting the entire process I will try to dig that post up

After a few months, his carpet does not treatment. Nice Haddoni carpet anemone

Thanks for the compliment minh. I appreciate everyones advice and please take no offense to this anyone but if you say he doesnt need to treat with cipro I will take your word for it. I value your opinion on nems very highly!

WOW.. I am sorry... i did not even see that you said it was a few months ago and that it is NOW a "Anyhow after some tlc from my bro it turned into this 14" monstrous blue-green beauty!"

Very nice... I thought... well never mind it does not matter. Any closeup pics?

I am putting putting together some flow video's for others to see. Do you have any video of it in the flow from the tank?

Just to give you guys a size reference, if you look back to the second picture in the first post ( the FTS), the wellso brain to the left of the carpet is every bit of 6" in diameter possibly closer to 7"!!!

Very nice.. and that is LARGE... Put the videos up on youtube, then you can use the share/embed link part.

Ive been hesitant in getting an invertebrate shipped from petco...they have cheap prices...i might give it a try if i get these results

I think this Petco Haddoni carpet and my Gigantea carpets were bought from local Petco, not mail order. I got a thread on my there Gigantea Carpets from Petco sometime ago.

+1, this one was purchased in store. If you are looking to get a nem I highly recommend buying in person. Aside from the fact that nems typically dont do well in shipping, its best to be able to view the nem before buying. It is important to check for tears in the foot or oral disk, though the foot is more important as it is highly likely a nem will die with a torn foot. Its important to make sure the mouth is not gaping open and that the nem is sticky to the touch! Good luck!!
