Petco Coupon

I was in Petco tonight buying crickets and I always walk over and look at the saltwater/coral section. This is the Petco at 101 and Northern in the west valley. I grabbed a few snails on sale and headed for checkout. When my receipt printed out it had a coupon attached that says: 50% Off - Entire Stock Saltwater or Freshwater Fish. Not valid on items already on promotion.

Although I, as many of you, do not make a habit of buying fish from petco this made me think you could get a pretty good deal. I understand you can request almost any fish that Petco stocks online to be ordered to a store. Then buy it with the coupon for 50% off. My understanding is that their distributors/wholesalers are often the same as some of our other LFS they simply lack personnel to take care of the animals once they arrive at the store. Any thoughts on the value and risk of this idea?

Correct! I believe you can even have them order to the store and call you for pickup before the bags are opened and touch their nasty system water.

SOME B&M stores are supplied by Quality Marine, but not all. Online sales are NOT.

Make sure to have a QT ready!!! I wouldn't trust my DT fish with new arrivals...
+1

All petco's are stocked by quality marine and coast tropics. Dont support petco but they get all there fish from same vendors as the lfs do. They just lack the experienced staff to care for saltwater fish. Ya you could have the store order it for you but some of the sku's are online sku's only, so depends on the fish you try to order. With any fish you buy you should Qt whether it be from petco, ocean floor, aqua touch, reef culture. Fish can come sick from vendor but unlikely. The funny thing I always hear is about how this people go to aqua touch and get their fish because they QT in a secret facility by the airport for a month before they hit the floor. One I think this is highly untrue and two big deal if you qt it for a month, you still have to bag it up catch or whatever and transfer it to the store now the fish is stressed out and could possibly come down with something.

Is ich included in the 50% off?

Does not matter who or where they get their creatures, what happens when they get there is what should be a crime!

I had to stop going there a long time ago; I always left feeling bad because I didn't buy the sick/dieing fish or coral to try to save it, knowing that some simple Tx would most likely bring it back to life AND knowing none there gave a hoot!

Petco are the whores of the industry, kind of like puppy mills and I will not support them for nothing they sell or give away!

Sorry, but I am a Petco hater and will always do my best to spread this hate rather people want to hear it or not!

:)

AquaTouch Too is hardly a "secret facility" it's just a large QT and curing space not open to the public. +100 to QTing your own fish no matter what the source, but if AquaTouch says they QT down south before transferring stock to the store, why would you doubt that? :P
