Petco Green Haddoni Rescue Project

Well, informed as per discussions in other threads, I decided to give a raid to the biggest petco in new york and arrived at Petco Union Square. As usual, it's crowed with cat and dog campaign.

i seriously recommend city consumer affairs to suspend petco marine service before some 3rd party specialists give a full scrutiny to their sustaining system

this was what i got. a beautiful but sure dying green haddoni, uggggh

there were condi's, gbta, and even some very delicate fish and corals. surprisingly their ora corals were stocked in a separate system that looks quite topnotch

the green and a chalk bass were a good deal and now the haddoni is in ht. its a beauty and good home for my saddleback. hopefully it will make it with cipro. parts of it started to bleach but good news is it stays very sticky. petco guys sure have no much knowledge of what they are keeping. the guy was very nice with me but brutal to the had. i told him it would be very sticky and he'd better wear gloves. he just tore the had off its hand :deadhorse:

I got an Orchid Dottyback a few years ago at one of the Petco in Lake Jackson TX. The Petco employee that attend to me caught the Dottyback then promptly add FRESH WATER into the bag. I stopped her, make her empty the water put the Dottyback back into his tank and got me another one from another tank.
Some of the manager just hire a your kid and put them to work with no training what so ever. It really depends on the manager of the store. I don't blame the employee, but blame the management of the store.

Listen, I don't mean to rain on your parade, and while I commend you for wanting to save the animal, you buying these guys did nothing except contribute to furthering their sales.

If you do not agree with what a company is doing, the best thing to do is ignore their existence. It's a little more difficult to do when it involves the living or dying of another living thing, but unfortunately now that you have given petco your money, more poor marine animals will die at their hands.

Best thing to do is ignore them. Eventually if enough people do it, it will be too expensive for them to continue to stock these animals.

yup i agree with you but the problem boycotting won't help at all. petco is a huge pet franchise and there are lots of saltwater keepers that aint so dedicated. the aquatic department was busier than most of lfs--or shall i say all--in new york or on li.:mad2:

i guess its now in the city's hand to look into it. well, i wrote 2 complaints to the city consumer affairs and i guess petco has been aware of the outrage and agony from serious reefers. they even put a huge pr rollup explaining how responsible petco is in marine industry. ugh

the city gotta do something or the suppliers? IN CONTRAST TO THEIR REGULAR TANK RACKS, THEIR ORA CORAL TANK WAS QUITE TOPNOTCH WITH POWERHEADS AND 8 BULB T5 LIGHTING AND AN INTRICATE RETURN PIPE. corals in that tank were doing quite fine. some even showed signs of growth

You do realize its the fish departments manager that hand orders everything? That person needs to be taught what they can and cant keep alive. Not all of PetCo. Its the managers job to run the system. Not the company. Petco doesnt do the water change.. feed. Stock.. scrub.. the amployees do.

well, i guess it's sure PETCO COMPANY's RESPONSIBILITY to teach its employees including the management

Corporate has pretty much nothing to do with the actual stores and what they do day to day. Its literally all on the manager of the fish area.. and the store manager.

well, if it happens occasionally at some stores, the specific management of those store is sure to blame

but now the problem is IT HAPPENS EVERY STORE of the franchise. PETCO is responsible to TEACH ITS MARINE MANAGERS AND MONITOR THE SERVICE

The petco near my moms house isnt bad. So your assumption that its hapoening at literally every store is false. The same cant be said for the one further south or the one up north though

Your sentence literally made no sense. And i am not your "bro"

well, its just my catch phrase for being polite and if you don't take it, ill take it back. it doesn't matter whether or not my sentence makes sense. it matters how fact tell petco is doing wrong. i don't have a single clue of your well managed petco store

but i have evidence of bad managed petco stores in

New York--assorted locations

New Jersey

Texas

California

Yup. And go figure im in Texas.

Come on down and id be glad to show you around. You say literally every one is bad. Have you yourself walked into every one of the thousands of stores nationwide?

Interestingly your so called one case can prove petco runs marine service well. You can at least give some pictures of how well they are doing around your home

It's my opinion that chain stores like petco, petland, petsmart etc have ZERO buisness selling living things. For this very reason.

Everyone got all up in arms about the "cute" animals like cats and dogs, but no one seems to want to do anything about the other ones.

Yup. You should see the crowd petcos gathered for their cat and dog campaign.
The suppliers might help. I'll post some pictures of their ora coral tank. I don't know of ora gets involved in designing that system

So far everything in my tank ive gotten from the petco close to my moms. The aquatics manager is a member of my local reef club, and possibly on this forum as well.
