Really everything there today looked great I wouldn't buy sick fish I check after they put it in the collection cup closely

Can't always see what's wrong with the fish but that is a bran new store so who knows I only go to petco for iguana bedding 
I stopped going in the fish department after stopping at the three by me it was very sad the one in Enfeild had five yellow tangs all with different things in a 10 gal tank full of different nems it was very sad looking

Wow that sounds bad the new store is very clean and the guy whos watching everything has a tank so its not just some min wage person who doesn't care

Buy local and support the local fish store. Their owners actually care about your success. The corporate executives at pecto could care less about your fish. You may pay a little more but you $$ supports a local owner and his family!

I support local fs trust me on that spent tons of money but if I see something at a fraction of the cost wail buying dog food u bet your *** ill buy it

I've take. Some terrible looking fish and have saved them... My purple tang was in jus as bad, if not worse shape than any fish I've seen at petco and its was being held at a LFS... I took him, nursed him, and now he is incredible... As well as others in the past... I won't take a fish with some initial "grace period" unless its free or very cheap, but I won't give up on a sick fish... They can be very resilient...

This can be said about any store selling fish. It isn't necessarily unique to Petco.
There are a couple of local stores that I wouldn't buy a fish from with out a quarantine and an aggressive proactive treatment scheme.

Every wonder why there are no more local hardware stores?
Same thing will happen with local pet stores if we the consumer allow it.
Petco is cheaper than AW up the street, however I do not find them to be cheaper than PC in west Hartford. You also have to consider the total value you get from them. Info, advice, etc.....
As far as my dog food I can save 5$ per bag at petco or petsmart but I get more value from PC that offers me so much more overall.
We as consumers have to vote with our dollars on what stores we want to keep in business. If you have been in the hobby for any lenth of time think of all the stores in CT that are no longer around?

Pc is the best store I have been to period and go there every other week almost bought fish there this weekend
fwiw i got both my yellowtail damsels from the local petco. one was my first fish and the second was a buddy since my clowns picked on the lone damsel. they were both in great condition but id definitely advise to qt any fish from anywhere if at all possible. that being said i try to go to stores like pc and kc and support them as much as i can and usually buy all my inverts and fish from the local guys. id rather see pc flourish and possibly open a pc east someday than support a thousand petcos. but for a 5 dollar fish i skipped the hour and fifteen minute drive to pc. as of now though the petco near me is horrible for salt water stuff so i dont bother even looking lol

Buy a snowblower from a local dealer, you have someone that has parts and can actually fix it / stands behind what they sell. Buy from the big box and and when it breaks in the storm you can just bring it to the parts counter / repair shop in the back corner. Oh wait that's right they don't have one.

I think its funny how people are trying to tell me how to spend my money. If a local business fails and close's its there fault not mine or any one else's. If your losing. Customers change it up end of story

We get it big corporate companys move in and shut down the littles guy its life deal with it not crying from my two fish I boughtt at petco that caused a domino affect shuting down every private local fish store comments where cute I give u that
