Petco $ per gal sale now has a 75 gal

I called all my local stores and they checked their local warehouse no one has the 75 G tanks.

Also my email only lists the 40G and not the 40B....

Wow. That is cheap. They must plan on folks buying lots of fish and supplies to offset the loss.

That and the fact glass is incredibly cheap. As is injection molded plastic... I wouldn't be surprised if they still make a decent profit on a 40B. It would take roughly 1.6 sq meter of glass to make one and judging alibaba prices its about $5 for that. So $7.50 plus some silicone and plastic trim. Then you pay a guy to make ~100 a day something like $4.50 an hour (or $.45 per tank).

Yeah they still make a profit.

It got the email saying the 75 gallon also but when I check the store's local ad, the 55gallon is the largest listed for this sale in the local ad. Like the email ad says " Available in Select stores and While supplies last.

I'm guessing this is a good old bait and switch type ad. They will have very, very low amount of 75 gallon tanks if any at most stores.

They really don't make much offering these and people who only buy the tanks. Where they make the money is selling all the accessories such as filters, lights, substrates etc.

The sale started September 25th and ends November 5th.

48" long 18" deep and 21" tall?

That's precisely what the doctor prescribed my Blue Spotted Jawfish pair and I have just the place to put it :bounce1::bounce3::bounce2:

I can confirm that they are available at SOME stores. I just went to my local Petco and there are currently five 75g tanks in stock. They look pretty good, 48W x 21H x 18D with a center brace. The caulking seemed a little messy but I think I can over look that if it holds water and is only $75 bucks. The store manager said they are trying these 75g's at select stores to see how they do.

The real question is, what panels are tempered on it? I saw a warning label on the bottom but it really didn't say "this panel is tempered," it said "do not drill enclosure." I was hoping to purchase this and drill several bulk heads in the back for an overflow and returns.

Anyone know if its just the bottom that is tempered on these?

I have the marineland 75 gallon (same maker: perfecto) and the bottom is tempered however the back is not. But i've noticed their tanks are not consistent. Some 55g had thicker glass than others, some 40b had tempered glass bottoms and others did not, etc.

I found out the hard way that a 40g breeder had a tempered bottom. This was after I found a pdf on Aqueon's website that said it wouldn't be tempered. Petco did nothing for me. I bought another, same brand, same tank and the bottom was not tempered.

If only I had a place for another tank.

FWIW - you should always check using polarized lenses to make sure a given panel is not tempered regardless of whatever a sticker might say
