Petco

Isn't this the best fish store ever???!?!?

lol....

Anyways....

I just noticed that they are now selling SW fish online. I bet they'll be a big hit with a lot of people. Of course, I'm sure the fish are not being shipped and handled by a lot of beginners, like at some of our local stores.

I thought I'd pass on my new findings, for better or for worse.

well you need to check out the petco in canton off of whipple, good livestock, knowledgeable staff, and they have been getting in some nice specimens lately

Every fish I have seen at a Petco has had the look of a 15 day guarantee to die. :(

Ugghh... That's bit disheartening. Personally, I support small, local businesses. But, I thought that it was neat to see on of the "big 3" pet stores recognize the need for catering to our hobby.

the Petco in canton has decent live stock. Not worth the drive from cleveland, however for those of us living to the south a bit it is one of our two ok options for local livestock. I personaly have purchased four fish from them in the past 6-8 mounths with out any problems. that is a better track record then I've had with the local "fish store".

haha does that local pet store happen to have wet pets at it lol

actually they have a REALLY nice powder brown tang for only $50 the thing is eating great and is very active, its colors are spectacular, if my ich doesnt go so good im not going reef and im going to go FO and nuke the tank with copper because it came back worse, one thing i would do with petco fish is keep them in QT, the one in canton has a small ich breakout in one of their systems but they are treating that system and they have the fish in tanks with cleaner shrimp, the one thing that the guy at petco told me (im good friends with most of the aquatic staff) is that they were ordering some stuff from a distributor that they had the authority to order from but now they are declined to do so, they have had some great butterflies and tangs in lately

I've been to the Petco in Erie several times - their marine fish are ^$(&$*# AWFUL!!! Always have ich and many dead and dying fish. They all have fin rot (if they have fins left at all) and look like they are struggling for every breath. On the other hand there are a few nice privately owned shops that have nice looking, healthy fish. It does seem as though the "little guys" have the better selection.

I been in the PetCo in Canton alot and they were getting very nice fish and corals in for a awhile but that is going to stop. The GM there said that the distributor that they were buying from is not what Corporate wanted...apparently the supplyer they have to go to now is a PetCo related company (can you say WalMart effect???) So it was ordered that they cannot go back to the "better" supplier.

The staff is upset because the last few weeks they had had the best fish sales ever and the stock they were getting was great and a wide variety..

Also, I found out that their RO water and salt water you can buy is not good right now. The filters are not being replaced as they should be due to the expense of them.....kinda explained why my tank was growing algae....

Several months ago I took my tds meter into Petco and tested their RO water, no better than the tap. I have my own RO unit and never used theirs anyway.

Mr neon i think what we need to do is get a bunch of people from the canton area to contact the petco corporate office and let them know that the livestock they have been getting was the best we have seen in the area and it sells fast and is all healthy and the petco company doesnt sell as good and their is so much stock left over because none of that livestock looks healthy, also we need to tell them that if they can expand their SW selection that the canton petco can really increase their sales, they have the staff to do so as im sure you know that they are very knowledgeable, and they really need to setup that oceanic half circle as a reef tank just like hectors place

they easily have the ability to dominate the saltwater market in the canton area and i think if we let their corporate office know that, they will be allowed to order more and better things

Matty....sounds good to me...I go in every week and yak with those people...(thats how I found out about the RO water that is not really RO water now....)

They had banner sales last few weeks on fish and corals because of the great variety and quality thye got but as I said they realted to me was Corporate says no more!!

It is the WalMart effect for control....they want sales to go up but quality will suffer....see how long that lasts for that store...

A lot of good people work in the fish dept and I know thye are not too happy...

Corporate made then take out the 90 gal display they hade....Why?? You sell salt water so have a sample display...that is marketing...

I am going in Friday to see what they have in...proabaly the last time is will be anything good....

im going to be going in too, im actually going to go in and get a number to their corporate office, i bet if i can get a list of about 100 people to say they would switch over to the new livestock supplier they will change their minds

or we could all throw in some money and start our own business so we can get livestock from who ever we want! i know a few people around that toy with the idea anyways.. it would be nice

i would be interested, i have often throught about getting a wholesalers account with walt smith or something, but walt smith required me to order the equivalent of 70 boxes of LR or 30-40 boxes of LR and about 25 boxes of fish and/or coral with there being about 12-25 corals per box

I have a friend that is going to be doing just that. From what I hear they will be getting their livestock from Walt Smith International and carrying all of the high end equipment. Although he has not decided on an exact location, it will likely be southeast of Cleveland, covering an area that is not really being covered right now. It could happen as early as this summer.

I'll be in Canton tonight, if I get a chance, I'm going to check it out. I don't need anything right now, however I've been wanting a Juv. Imperator Angel. If they had a nice one of those in when I get there... it would be like hitting the lottery!

I used to go to the mall in Canton with my Mom when I was younger, so hopefully I don't get too lost!

tell ellen that mantis shrimp matt sent you and that you would like t see if they could get in a juvi. imperator angel, she is awesome and so is dale and steve, all are very knowledgable and willing to help you out the best you can, they will also let you know how a fish is eating and if they have been treating it for anything like ich
