here is a short video showing the under tank works (aka sump/refugium)
sorry it's not the best commentary

How do you manage to luck out like that? All I find under my corals are vermetid snails. I love watching the sump vids, the life in the refugium is awesome. :)

When I got a price and said I'd take it I had no idea it was there. When the store owner lifted it up I saw a flash of orange and thought maybe it was a sponge, I asked, and he said it was a suncoral that wasn't doing so well.

Today I asked the wife how it was doing, she said it looked the same but that at least one of the smaller polyps where showing some small amount of extension, so I'm hoping it opens at night and can get catch a small pod or two.

I think your best bet is to feed those.

thanks - I left instructions at home that if seen open, feed it.

Next time I'm home I'll try to remove the suncoral or split the rock so I can move it to the sump where we can give it more attention

How's the Mandarin doing today Pete?

I gave her a 5 hour bath in Prazi Pro on Tuesday. I used the recommended dose, or 1/4 teaspoon for 5 gallons. Within a couple of hours of starting the bath she appeared to be more aware of her suroundings, at least she was eyeing me as I was working in the area.

From what my wife told me last night the mandarin looked like she was trying to eat for the first time since the ordeal started. If she does recover it's going to be hard to get around without her pectorials, I hope they can grow back, but I have no idea. We are pretty certain she would have died or been killed by now if she was in the wild. :sad2:

The ordeal reminds me of a chromis I had that was almost bit in half by a trigger fish and survived for a several months after the ordeal. The trigger went right back to the LFS as we thought it was going to be reef safe. :hmm2:

here are some videos I took of the sick mandarin
I don't have an update for today

Keeping my fingers crossed she pulls through...

word from the house is she is still hanging in there

warning:
I was checking out the CR sponsors last night looking to see who sold sea fans (gorgs) as I would like to add a couple non photosynthetics to the darker areas of my tank. Toward the bottom of the sponsors page I clicked on a website that tripped my virus software and ended up giving me a black screen, hard drive errors and memory errors. I tried to run my anti spyware software but it said I didn't have admin rights, tried safemode and got the same results, this thing was pretty ugly. I was able to restore my system to an earlier date and it seemed to be fine after that but wasted a couple hours trying to get it fixed.
Just giving some people that read here a heads up. I may chance trying it again tonight to see if I get the same results, if I do I'll post the name of the outfit.

quick update

the female madarin is still hanging in there. my wife feels she is on the road to recovery as she is finally looking for food.

another good note is the sun coral actually opened up late tonight - maybe we can try and feed it tomorrow

Wow, psteeleb I just finished reading your thread in one sitting. I don't know how to explain the gratitude for all the help and information that you have given us fellow reefers with this thread. This tank is truly an inspiration to everybody.
You too Drummereef! You guys are just chalk full of info and great ideas!
Now if only I could get MY tank started!
