Pete's 110 build

Amazing looking tank

thanks :)

Congrats on the new wavebox! I'm feeling a new video come on. :D

That makes perfect sense about the limited, measured Kalk doses. I've always wondered how people managed Alk when just adding Kalk to top-off as it's so random depending on evap etc... Your system blends the best of everything while maintaining constant Alk, which to me is ideal. :)

thanks Brett - I'm still not happy with the over all pH swing, as I'd like to cut it down to about 1.5 or less.

NEW WAVEBOX!!! Pics and Vids, you should really stop holding out on all your fans!:spin1:

hehe - unfortunatly I wont be picking it up till next Friday - so the suspense continues :spin3:

Telling us about your new toy 10 days out, is like telling the kids "we're goin to disneyland!!!!" :celeb1:

Are we there yet, are we there yet!!!:bounce3:

Pete, great tank, great pics. Do you take all these pictures with your video camera? They are incredible and look like professional macro shots. What camera are you using again?

Thanks for sharing!

Next Friday??? Dangit!

yep - and that's assuming the guy hasn't sold it to someone else. I sent a follow up message confirming I'll buy it and asking for a picture two days ago and after wondering why I didn't get a response I found out that it didn't go through to him. I sent another message last night.

haha - I remember those days (both as a child and a parent), they drove me nuts :spin2:

thanks - and I'll add your tank is looking great

the pictures on the more recent pages are all taken with the video camera
it is a Sony HDR - I think the model number is XR150 but I'm not home to check

I got confirmation on the Nano wave box and I'm already considering making modifications to it - haha :hammer:

I also have a bunch of coral trades set up for next time I'm home

a watermelon chalice for some ORA pearlberry
a ponape birdsnest and tenuis for pearlberry and symposium
a frag of my blue tort from my 300g
a nice sized teal blue stag for a future trade
and we have our local frag swap next weekend :)

Looks like I may have to consider pulling some live rock out of the display :D

Great news! I also love seeing guys get corals back from their original mother colonies. That's so cool! :)

I had a great time at the DFWMAS frag swap. I didn't intend picking up anything more then a frag of my old blue tort that Deb was kind enough to save for me, but I eneded up walking out with the tort and 7 other frags. As for the tort, I was expecting a frag and what I got was a nice sized coral. I'll post pictures later.

Yesterday, I installed the Tunze nano wave box in the tank in hopes that it would kick up detritus and help with polyp motion for asperation etc. I wasn't sure how it would perform in the corner of the tank but so far I'm very pleased with the results on both accounts. You can tell in this video just how much detritus was kicked up and see the wave mothin on coral polyps that are clear on the other side of the tank.

Great flow pattern and polyp extension with the new wave box. Those polyps look like a crowd of people bobbing up and down chanting, We're not worthy... We're not worthy!!

a couple more vids:

here is the dendro reacting to all the detritus being kicked up - looks like full out polyp extension

and here are the 9 new corals I picked up on 4-3

Great vids again Pete. You mentioned some mods you might do to the Wave Box in an earlier post. What were those mods?

Thanks Brett

Prior to me getting the nano wavebox I thought I would need something with more power. The full sized wavebox is too big for the location I wanted and from what I read some people were not happy with the nano in tanks 100g and over.

The modification consisted of taking the nano pump out of the box and building a custom sized but larger box to fit the space between the overflow and glass. And, if that still wasn't enough, I was also considering building a secondary box, buying a second pump, and installing it on the other side of the overflow.

Right now I'm good with the results, and I'm happy with the small space it takes next to the overflow as there is still room to get my glass cleaner in there.

Is there a future mod coming to the nano? Maybe, but it's no longer high on the priority list.

Right now I'm still dealing with the bryopsis and with the Mg back up to 1750 using techM I'm seeing some burning / shriveling but not on all outcroppings, so I added another cup of techM this morning. I should now be around 1800 and will test to check the actual level. The only negative side affects so far is I'm losing snails at each increase and nothing else appears to be affected.

Gah! That teal acro is beautiful and almost a full colony! I wish our SPS community was as well developed here as it appears to be down there...

Last night my wife woke up at 3am to a strange noise in the tank and noticed the water was cloudy, so she got me up. After checking several things and scratching our heads as to what was going on she found the anemonee in one of the power heads, ouch. The nem was about 80% in tack still but I still pulled it out and tossed him. I stayed up till 4:30 doing a 20% water change and fortunatly everything looks great this morning. My wife and I are kind of sad as it was one of the prettiest bubble tips I've ever seen but also feel very fortunate that she happened to hear the power head make the clunking sound when the nem got sucked up in it.

thanks

Holy cow, that's too bad Pete. :( Sorry you had to get rid of it. Glad to hear the tank is going to be OK but that's a bummer. :(

Thanks Brett - I'm just glad my wife heard it and that I was home.
Everything in the tank is looking great.

I've been remounting and moving corals around this week to alow for the new additions. I'll try to get some pictures or vids up this weekend.

Great tank. Sorry to read about your old one, it was a beautiful tank. I'm sure this one will look like that in no time. You take some great photos and videos.

sorry to hear about the Anemone.
i would have given it a chance though if it was still 80% intact as most do recover.
Love the pics that efflo is just breathtaking.
