Pete's 110 build

Nitrates are down around 2-3ppm, a few days ago they were around 4 so they appear to still be dropping. I'm still only using just over 1/2 the recommended amount of bio pellets. I may add a bit more today as I want to increase my feeding routine close to what I was doing as my sponges and gorgs are suffering from me cutting back. I'm leaning toward going lean on the bio pellets as I don't want them consuming 100% of available nitrates. Other critters in my reef aquarium also consume nitrates and don't want to stave them out. There's always that challenge of balance in this hobby.

That's great! I need to go get a new NO3 test kit. My pellets seem to be consuming much slower, or my test kit is acting funny.

awesome tank - great job, and great pix!!

I'm sure you already answered this, but I probably missed it skimming the pages. Could you post your lighting and how you run it (how many hours per day of each)?

Wonderful stuff! Thanks for video's. I love watching life in my sump too. I don't have any mysis though. That would be cool
thanks - and I don't have a clue asto where the mysis came from

I was using the Salifert but it was so hard for me to tell just if they were dropping or getting worse for readings over 10 ppm so I bought a Red Sea test kit, they are a bit pricey but definitly give you a better indication of where the nitrates are.

cant swear to the exact timing but I think this is close

7:30 the first set of 24 Cree Royal Blue Leds start to turn on using a 2 hour ramp up power then stay on

9:00 the second set of 18 Cree Royal Blue Leds kick in with the same 2 hour rampup and stay on

11:00 the 18 Cool white LEDs kick in with a 2 hour ramp up and stay on

3:00 4 T5's are on (think its an actinic, 2 actinic whites and a fiji purple)

8:00 the 4 T5s turn off

8:30 the 18 cool white LEDs start their 2 hour dimm to off program

9:30 the 18 royal blue LEDs start their 2 hour dim to off program

10:30 the 24 royal blue LEDs start their 2 hour dim to off program

12:30 all lights out

and I like ball nems but not in the middle of a zoa patch - I may have to convince myself into buying one of those $200 hand held lasers

Wow, your macros shots are really, really nice!!! I am still learning proper shutter speed and depth of field on mine...plus I need to get the editing software to clean up the back grounds & color balance the blues out.

I have always believed the corals beauty is in the macro.

I upped the bio pellets by another 100ml so I should now be a little less then 75% of the recommended amount. I hope to see the nitrates drop some more as they seem to have hit 4-5 and have been staying there.

Man, I would be ecstatic to have my nitrates stay at the 4-5 range. I am definitely considering breaking out my old reactor and trying BP for a second time.

no problem Chris - just let me know when you are ready for some, did you sell your other tank?

Hey Pete. I still have the other tank, in fact it is still up and running. I'm going to break it down next week and hopefully get the new tank in place. My new light fixture should be delivered on tuesday.

Excellent photos and videos as always!! The video on the tube nems is absolutely wild. What type of light setting or lights do you use on the videos? Thanks! Very nice tank.

I'll keep you posted on my progress, I'm also starting to up my feeding a little more so I may get some mixed results.

Chris, how far off I35 are you? I may be heading to San Antonio next weekend and may be able todrop off some macro if you still want it.

Thanks - most of the pictures are taken later at night after I get home and had dinner. So my T5's are off leaving just the LED's on. With this a couple things happen; first the LED's provide a more direct (from single point) light and provide more contrast on the corals showing more details. Second with the T5's off the center of the tank is darker yet the corals closer to the glass are hit with spotlights of LED's providing a back ground contrast to the point the camera picks up the background as almost black. And third the lights are now predominantly in the 460nm wave so I get a lot of color pop on the corals that fluoresce

Superb imagery. Thanks for sharing them, Pete!

thanks Chris
