Pete's 210 build

Pete, did you solve your support issue? I found these grey u-brackets for my plumbing. Would match your plumbing pretty close I bet.

Good call getting the AquaUltraviolet UV, great product. I love your plumbing work, thanks for sharing.

Thanks Scott. I inherited the Aqua product from a previous tank, and like the size much better than the Pentair unit I had to sell. The other unit I had was better sized for my tank (40w) but was WAY too large for the location I have for equipment.

petes97. The clips/brackets that kevin95695 mentioned are for conduit. I just picked the same ones up this weekend at HD since I didnt want the metal ones. They come in all sizes up to 4" I think...

kevin95695,
Didnt mean to jump in on your reply....

Yeah, i was going to recommend something along those lines. Even plumbing straps will work too.

You asked about what I'm going to redo on my plumbing.

I'm just going to move my manifold over to the right side of the tank to get them out of my way :)

August 6, 2008 - Drilling the sump

I decided to take a few things back to Home Depot that have been taking up space in my garage, from projects half finished or never started. I received a few dollars more than expected, which is always a nice surprise. I had a 2.5" hole saw at home, but the size needed for my bulkhead was pretty close to 2 3/8". Figuring HD wouldn't have this size, I figured my money was safe in my pocket and I was screwed as far as moving forward with the project.

I was pleasantly surprised, and sans $12 I left HD to come home and drill the sump for my skimmer outflow.

The tooth pattern on the Rigid hole saw was a bit rougher than I would have liked, but sandpaper will work wonders on acrylic.

Yup, it fits nicely.

After checking, rechecking, and rechecking some more, I finally marked the location for the hole.

IMG_3407.jpg

It looks like it should fit.

IMG_3408.jpg

Uh, oh...

IMG_3409.jpg

The hole ended up being just a fraction of a hair off of where I would have liked it, but at least it was an error in the correct direction, as water will run downhill, but not up.

Success!

I've got to make up another pipe and glue up the output shaft and a union inline for disassembly and I should be that much closer to being "done." Whatever that means.

If you are gluing the gray pipe into the bulkhead I would suggest placing a union after the tee so that it is easier to take the skimmer out for service.

Hey Pete -

I definitely second JRaquatics comment. Put in a union there. This is how I did it:

It has already saved me from a few big headaches when I have to service the skimmer.

I've been meaning to post on your thread for some time, as I've been following it from the very beginning!

You are quite the DYIer and master of all trades. I've really enjoyed watching you put it all together and pause to take great pictures along the way.

Can't wait to see what's next!

Best, Itay.

It looks like he is planning on adding a union as you guys have mentioned, just hasn't gotten to it yet.

Good job Pete. Looks great.

Well, I wish I had read the text in detail... instead I was distracted by all the pictures :-D

Sorry Pete :)

Yup, that is exactly my plan. I thought I posted that in my update last night, but perhaps I wasn't clear. That happens to me in the evenings. I've got a union at home and will be setting this up tonight, if all goes as planned. I'm going to place the union within 2" of the bulk head into the sump. The pipes on the inside of the bulkhead will be dry fit, as I won't need to glue them. I'm leaving all pipes at or below the water line in the sump dry fit at this point.

Thanks for following along.

I'm going to leave a few inches out of the bulkhead, in case I ever need to cut the union off, I can reuse the bulkhead, but pretty much like your picture otherwise.

I'm pretty sure I'm not a master of all trades, just a jack, but thank you for the compliment. Much like KMP (Kenny), I think I like the build more than established tank.

Next up:

  • Finish the Skimmer input and output piping
  • Attach the return manifold
  • Test for leaks
  • Head to LA for fish on Sunday night

Yup, me an a few locals are taking an overnight trip down to tour the selection in LA on Sunday night/Monday.

Okay, so I had a little time this evening and finished gluing up the output from the skimmer. I'm one step closer to firing this bad boy up.

Nice and Clean. Great work Pete. Now get that baby fired up!

I can't wait to see how the drain plumbing works out.

I glued it up last night, but didn't take pictures. I have to plumb the left side return and then I can start a water test on the system.
