I just have to run the flex vinyl line to the return pump, figure out a way to support the weight of the return manifold and then start testing for leaks (heaven forbid I find any).

Looking great Pete!

Man that SCH80 PVC looks sharp and matches the reeflo skimmer so nicely. Well done.

I know I'm a saltwater tank addict when I look at this and it looks beautiful. We're all in the same boat, aren't we? And I'm just a noob! :spin2:

Now put same water in it!

Best, Itay.

I connected the return line, but decided to wait for the morning to test for leaks. In case I find something, I'm a bit too tired to deal with any issues tonight.

My wife asked me about the grey pipe tonight. I explained that I had driven all over town 3 times, and ordered from two online vendors and paid easily 3 times more for this than white schedule 40. She just looked at me stupefied and shrugged. She didn't argue when I asked her if it looked good.

August 9, 2008 - Plumbing is done?

Otherwise known as the big leak. p:sser. I'm glad I didn't try this last night. While the Chinese may make a decent skimmer, their TUBV labeling leaves a little to be desired.

It says, "OFF" at the top. I would think that means off. Not half a turn to the side. Which I couldn't do once the water started pouring out of the skimmer all over the stand and floor. But I digress...

I had to take the canopy's canopy off to get to the canopy.

IMG_3423.jpg

Then take the canopy off. I like the open top look. Oh well.

These came with the tank. I wrapped the bottom of each pipe with some pink teflon tape (2 wraps) to keep a nice seal with the bulk heads.

Installed and leak tested the bulkheads. Good so far. But you already know what comes later.

I should have done this the first time. That is a piece of tubing connected to the output of the skimmer body drain, and it is taller than the skimmer. Just in case.

More importantly, you can see that the off position is actually half way between the top and the bottom. I should have known, but it wouldn't have mattered, because until I took it all apart and cut half of the handle off, I couldn't turn it off anyway. So Darcy and I scrambled to get towels. And then the clean-up ensued. Then I cut th handle off so it would fit in the stand, since the rest of the hard plumbing was NOT going to get modified at this late state in the game.

The collection cup in in place and the skimmer is running. Very quiet. The vortechs are still the loudest part of the tank.

Lot of progression for a weekend. Great work on the Plumbing Pete. I don't use the open and close on the wedge valve. I actually mark the tee and the wedge like a dial. I mark from fully open to close with small lines. This gives me a more precise indication of my output settings and desired skimmer settings. Vortechs are loud at anything above 80% full throttle. I set mine at 75% to keep noise levels down. The will also quite some one the run a while. They are awesome pumps with great flow and incredible undertow. I can't wait till I get my 3rd one.

I hope your happy with what you have done so far, cause it looks amazing.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the kind words. I just gopt back from an overnight trip to LA to buy some fish. What a day!

Anyway, I've got 2 QT tanks set up at the moment, but probably not enough, so I'll have to set up some more tonight before I go to bed, and I've been up for going on 36 hours now.

I picked up the following for my new tank:

(7) Evansi Anthias
Powder Blue Tang
Blue Spot Jawfish
Purple Fire Fish
Copperband Butterfly
(2) Cleaner Shrimp
Sea Hare
Leopard Wrasse

I think that is it.

Anyway, amquel and Formalin-3 are my friends during QT.

Pictures to follow.

do you think that having the plugs behind the sump is going to be a problem at all? if does not look like you have much room to get in there to unplug something if you had to in a hurry. i know you said that you were going to use the acjrs and that would be the main control. but if you had to unplug those in a hurry.......

by the way very nice build. i too have a 210 gallon but mine is inwall. i still dont have enough room for all the equipment and i got my own room for everything... you did a great job putting everything in the stand.

keep the pics coming!

Seeing the tank first hand over the weekend, it is as my reefin' buddy Chris would say: "SICK"!!!!! Alot of time and hard work has gone to putting this tank together and it shows. The plumbing is SWEET!! BTW, why all the way to LA for livestock?

I just read this thread from front to back this weekend. First off, you are going to love that skimmer, they rock! Second you have the most patience and attention to detail I may have ever scene. Your setup is incredible! Everything is perfect. There is no way I could wait that long and make everything look that neat, I get way too anxious. But trust me, it's paying off, your build is incredible!

Rob, nah, I was just along for the ride. I 'd never seen a wholesale operation. The drive was worth that, if nothing else. Considering I've lost 2 Anthias already, and a 3rd is on its way out, I'm glad I didn't pay $30+ each for them.

Thanks for the kind words.

Thanks for taking the time to read it all. It has been a fun 2 months, but I want it to be done soon. I can't wait. The only saving grace is that I am so busy most of the time that I just can't spend enough time on it to make too many mistakes.

Tell me about it. Try buying 200-300 fish at one time. Believe me most wholesale operations are nothing to look at!!

I can only imagine. I think we picked up about 100 fish all total. I was really impressed with the two places we went to. Both were very well run, albiet a bit slow on the checkout process, and one was incredibly clean and well organized.
