Pete's 210 build

Pete, how far from the wall do you have the tank? There is a duct return on the wall for the furnace where I would like to put the tank. I'm hoping that I can put the tank in front of it since the stand will be empty. I'm planning on putting the sump in the basement.

I placed my stand about 4" - 4.5" off the wall to allow enough room for access to the dry side of a vortech pump on the back of the tank.

July 29, 2008 - Cycling (not in France)

Tank params are as follows:
Ammonia: < 8 ppm (API)
Nitrite: > .5 ppm (API)

Plumbing
The big order from BRS is scheduled for delivery on Friday. The order from FlexPVC was supposed to ship out of Arizona today, so Friday is still a hopefully delivery, but no tracking number yet.

July 30, 2008 - Cycling still (day 11)
Tank params are as follows:
Ammonia: > 4 ppm (API)
Nitrite: ~ 1 ppm (API)

Plumbing
The order from FlexPVC shipped yesterday. I have a tracking number, but because it is USPS, it isn't of any good at this point.

Canopy Fans
I'm looking at SilenX 80mm fans for my canopy, but am looking for peoples experiences with fans and T5 retro lighting.

I love Costco. Cool stuff, good quality, fair prices. I picked up a pair of these for $10 and decided to by a third for the understand lighting.

They run on 3 AAA batteries and use either screws or velcro to adhere in place (I opted for the velcro).

Here is two on the larger left opening. I'll be putting one on the smaller right opening.

July 31, 2008 - Cycling still in the morning (day 12)
Tank params are as follows:
Ammonia: ~ 4 ppm (API)
Nitrite: ~ 2 ppm (API)

Pete

you are a very patient man!!!

I moved my sharks into my 300 cube LOL, and added a 100 + pounds of live rock that I had bought at Underwater world that was curing for 2 months.

The tank was cleaned and all new water was added to it ,
the only thing I added from there old system was my G4X skimmer.

The highest ammonia I got was .1 and there is 10 sharks in that tank!!!

But I can under stand not wanting to ad pests to your tank.

Not so much, but that fact that it took me longer than expected to build the sump and order the plumbing has allowed me to take some time. All should be well and ready for our trip in another week or so.

I'd throw another packet of bio-spira in there. How many did you add to begin with?

Considering that the tank is clearing about 2ppm of ammonia a day, I think the bacteria is pretty well established. I've still got that large prawn in there, decomposing, and the ammonia was WELL over 8ppm earlier in the week, due to my overdosing of ammonia. I added two packets of BIO-Spira (good for 60 gallons). I've used some prime to keep the ammonia at, or around 8ppm when it was super high, and I've dosed Special Blend along with about 25ml of vodka every other day.

I guess the moral of the story is, I'm not sure which of these things is working and which isn't, but I'm seeing a good cycle and excellent clearing rates for the ammonia. I'm hoping it will be 0 by the end of the weekend, and then I should see clearing of the nitrates. I'll plan on doing a large water change for the accumulated nitrates next Saturday and then I should be in good shape for high volume of new fish a week from Monday, if all goes as planned!

Pete the tank is coming along nicely. Can't wait to see what it looks like when you get corals and fish in it.

Thanks for sharing.

Bill:)

Hey Pete! Nice build! And nice journal of the build!

I was wondering where your build thread was. Guess I need to venture beyond the MARS forum more often...

Thank you. It's been tough waiting too. Luckily, I have a few other tanks at the moment to stare at.

Pete - Quick question: Where did you buy your T5 lighting from?

I bought 2 IceCap 660s locally (used), and 2 from MarineDepot.

I bought the Aquactinics reflectors and standoffs, as well as the IceCap endcaps from a local vendor, Captive Reef Systems.

I'll probably be buying my fans from Frys, or ordering online.

I plan on buying my electrical plugs from HomeDepot.

Bulbs have yet to be ordered, but will most likely come from ReefGeek.

So is this the weekend you get everything up and running?

Did you find another person to take with us next weekend?

What about Rafael?

Chris, call me, I found a fourth earlier today.

As of this evening the water params are:

Ammonia: > 1 ppm (API)
Nitrite: ~ 2 ppm (API)

I also got another package today. The first of two shipments of plumbing supplies arrived ahead of schedule.

Wow, Peter. Just got through all 16 pages (only took me 2 days!). I've enjoyed the detailed account of your build so far and look forward to the rest.

Your acrylic work looks great. I'm continually impressed with your wife's shared interest in reefing. You are very lucky! Darcy should post more often on your thread.

I'm interested to see how putting the rock on pegs works out for you. I've been considering the same approach.
