Pete, you can use RO/DI water and a very soft cloth, like camera lens cloth or cloth diapers. I've used the reptile glass cleaner stuff from Franks Tanks without any ramifications.

What perplexes you? (Gotta love that word...) It looks like the new bulb is shinier.Did you not expect it to be so? Your better reflectors will definitely make even an old bulb work better.

Pete, once you have a PAR meter, the guesswork will be a thing of the past.

I would run the comparison again after a month of burn in. I bet the amount of diminished intensity to your eyes will make the difference less noticeable. Perhaps?

Right there with you. I've come to the conclusion that my tank is not wrasse safe
I've lost two in a month. Both were healthy, eating and doing well.

Yeah I have two brittle stars that are normally peaceful, but maybe wrasses taste good? One is getting about 15-18" across... Otherwise just the CB shrimp, who I don't think is the culprit. The only reason I suspect the stars is that one attached a wounded crab I had once...

I lost another wrasse. I just picked it up Saturday, it was doing fine, eating hanging out with the other fish, no one bothering him etc. It was about 5" long so pretty good size compared to other fish in may tank but I get home and find it dead.
I'm thinking my purple lobster or the banded coral shrimp must be finding them when they sleep in the sand bed and kill them. Anyone else experience this?
Ph had to be over 8.15 all day, it was 8.2 when I got home and went up a bit more. The 8am limewater dose didn't go, because the high Ph solenoid was shut all day. Maybe the fish death had something to do with it.![]()
